There's no question that Sheed and Hill are dramatic offensive upgrades off the bench - assuming that's where Sheed ends up.

But ... I'd still like to add a defensive specialist at the 3 whose brain won't vapor-lock in crunch time. That would not be Tony Allen.

I agree.  I am hoping either Walker or Giddens steps up to be that guy, but its tough to count on them, so it would be nice to try to get a veteran at the minimum who could do the job, like Bowen.

In a perfect world, I'd like to spin Tony off - for anything, actually - and bring in a veteran who can defend.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

If they add Hill, they take pressure off House and the team to find a 2nd PG.

Hill has the skills to run an offense, allowing House to be the spot up shooter he is.

And with Wallace and Hill, the Celtics can rest the 3 stars without the offense grinding to a halt.

Want to see them add a defensive SG/SF as well.

Exactly.  Signing Hill allows him to be the facilitator when Rondo is on the bench, and allows House to play off the ball which is best for him.

Didn't we draft Giddens because of his defensive ability?

I think Celtic Nation is going to be torn... clearly Bill Walker is the fan favorite, but there isn't room on this team for both he and Giddens.

If Giddens is the defensive player he's supposed to be, don't we need to keep him on the bench and let Walker go?

...and I LOVE the Hill signing (if it happens).  Finally somebody to score some buckets off the bench besides Eddie.

We cant go wrong with Grant Hill! He is hungry for a title, still has above average wheels & is only about 32 yrs. old B-Ball wise due to all the time he has missed over the years. So he has alot left in the tank & hasn't played the same amount of games as a normal 37 yr. old grizzled veteran has. I live in Phoenix & watched Grant for the past 2yrs & he was easily the most consistent Phoenix Sun in that time frame & didn't miss any games due to injury. I think & hope that is a thing of the past & he is comepletly healthy.

That is an interesting take on mileage in the NBA. While he hasnt played as many games, his body still broke down and had to be built back up. Would you be more confident in the health of a 35 year old Rasheed Wallace who has never had a major injury but has way more games played, or Grant Hill who has missed entire seasons due to career threatening injuries?

With that in mind, I love Grant Hill coming here but also think they need a stopper off the bench. Maybe we can wait a little longer and see how far Walker and Giddens have gotten defensively since both seem to have the tools at least to be good to great defenders. Otherwise, there are still a few Wings out there with some skills defensively (Barnes specifically)

Maybe Matt Barnes does not want to play here (could he be had for LLE and be willing to play in Boston?), but I still would LOVE to have Grant Hill on this team.

I read on other blogs about how Jeff here said Tanguay was the first to disperse the Rasheed rumor, so I hope Tanguay's gut is true.

If you like Ray Allen's game then you'll like Grant Hill.  He doesn't have allen's range but a calm, smart team player who will do so many things not noticed (like ray's d!)
We are talking hill with a second unit.  But he can also start at either sg or sf if needed.  I'd welcome him with open arms and help pack tony's bag.

This is exactly what I am hoping for.  But at 37, can Hill still run some PG?  Did he do it at all in Phoenix?  I hope so because it would be a perfect fit wth House.

I feel like this is probably redundant at this point, but I will add my $.02 anyway.

What I like about Hill is that he is a veteran that can play defense, score and most importantly facilitate.  He can play point forward, allowing Eddie to play off the ball w/o giving up size by having another 6'0 on the court.

I think this is truly an underrated upside. If he can play point forward we can carry an extra roster spot for another big or an athletic defensive stopper at the wing.

I think it would be best to do this to start the season and then try to use TA/Scal or a mid-season buyout to fill the pg need if it arises.  I'd rather this than Pruitt, Lue or Marbury taking up a roster spot.

What I do not like about Grant Hill is that he is ancient and injury prone and he is backing up two guys that have a TON of mileage on them and have been ailing the past two seasons.

It would be optimal to add some depth behind Hill like a Warrick, Q Ross, or Matt Barnes (ie young, talented and athletic).  But these guys are probably looking for more than the LLE and a 4th wing spot. So I fear we may be stuck with hoping that one of the Giddens/Walker/Allen group figure out how not to be liabilities.

It's a good signing, a nice high basketball IQ for our bench and he can still score. He's just come off his first ever 82 game season as well so here's hoping he can remain fit.

Who is a better option?

I like Grant Hill because I think he's the best option on the board for the Celtics.

So, who is a better option for Boston than Grant Hill?

I love how Boston fans get so hyped up about these rookies or 2nd year players who they believe could be unbelievable. I would bet everything I'm worth that Giddens and Walker, or whichever one might be on the roster, will play a total of 50 minutes all season. Grant Hill has been in this league for ever, and is much better than either of those two. I'd rather see Rasheed and Grant Hill a million times before I saw Giddens and Walker once. Walker was Beasley's little ****.

Grant Hill would be an excellent addition to this team. He is a great player and, more importantly, just a great all around individual. He played very well last season and appears to have rejuvenated his career. I think he would help out the second unit tremendously.

Plus, since we are so depleted at the backup PG spot he could fill in there for a few minutes each night. I used to love watching him play the point way back in the day.
Carl: And, technically, he's supposed to be spayed, and uh, he ain't that. I know that first hand. Go ahead, ask me how I know. Go ahead. Ask me. Ask me how I know.

I really really rather have Parker, the guy is young and he can give u anything GHill can gives u and more, other than experience and we have plenty of that.

I can live with hill in the Boston OldTimers. but I love Parker.
Jamario sounds better fit too, and like OP I really like to sign another HUGE body first and maybe Marbury too before doing this.

I am tired of the backup PG signed by midyear stuff, they never glue that way like theyre supposed or have the potential to do so.
