OK, I know everyone is focused on Sheed and excited about his possible signing with the Celtics, and so I am. Grant Hill's name has been quoted a lot during this offseason. I love the player and he would be a good backup for Pierce, but I would rather take Barnes or another wing before Hill considering that he is injury prone. Phoenix's medical staff did a great job of keeping him in shape (he played 82 games for the first time in his career at 36!) but I'm not sure he would look so physically good in Boston.
Anyway, the latest news from Marc Stein are saying that Hill is considering all the options since it will probably be his last contract, but that he is very bounded to Phoenix, and that the full MLE would probably be one of the only contracts that make him leave Phoenix.
Here is the quote :
No less interesting that Kidd's foray into free agency is the case of Suns swingman Grant Hill, who said last week during his participation in Steve Nash's annual Showdown in Chinatown charity soccer game in New York that he is determined to listen to every proposal he gets, figuring that this could be his last real chance, at 36, to be widely courted.
Fresh off a trip to the Western Conference finals, Denver keeps coming up as a team hot for Hill, who earned less than $4 million over the past two seasons with the Suns but just played in all 82 games for the first time in his career, averaging 12.0 points and 4.9 rebounds and shooting a robust 52.3 percent from the field. Boston is another team that has Hill on its radar and more are sure to emerge.
The Suns, meanwhile, should certainly have a shot to hang onto Hill, given his close ties to Suns guard Steve Nash -- assuming Nash eventually accepts the contract extension Phoenix is offering -- and Hill's affinity for the athletic training staff that has resuscitated his career after some six years of injury misery. Yet if Hill were to receive a full mid-level offer from a contender he likes, Phoenix won't be trying to match given its well-chronicled desire to keep moving away from the luxury-tax line.
Stein is saying that Phoenix wouldn't match the full MLE if it was offered for Hill, not that Hill is considering to leave only for the full MLE, but still I think we all agree that the full MLE would be too much for a player like Hill, especially if we are in a good position to sign Rasheed.
