Chad Ford acknowledging the Cs rumor on Sheed:

Evan (Boston)
Speaking of the Pistons, where do you see Rasheed Wallace ending up? I'm hearing sheed could be wearing celtics green..

Chad Ford
That's the rumor ... Magic, Spurs and Cavs have also been rumored there. And don't totally count out the Bobcats. Sheed and Larry Brown have a good relationship.

I agree i think their MLE targets are Marion and Rasheed ... maybe in that order.

the question will be will he be OK with 35 mpg if its coming off the bench... it'd be a great opportunity for him IMO...

Agreed. I think the C's want a modest home run with the MLE.

What is a modest home run? This team, while they do have a chance to win two in three years as is, does need to make some pretty big changes to the bench. There might not be a lot of options in free agency, but if we DO want to secure another chip or two, we're going to need a grand slam this summer. Not neccesarily a block buster, but certainly an A-Plus offseason.

I'd hate to see solid guys like Warrick, Barnes, and Childress get signed elsewhere while we're waiting for Marion to turn down our MLE offer.

Isn't that what essentially what happened last year with Maggette?  Hopefully Danny has learned that guys aren't dieing to take pay cuts to come off our bench.

By modest home run i think there are some guys that might fall to the MLE, guys that would just over the fences - Sheed, Marion are the first that come to mind. A grand slam home run would have been the unattainable: Odom, Boozer, Okur, Turkoglu, Lee. I think it is near impossible to hit a grand slam with the MLE... I cant even think of the last time some team did it... other than Chauncey Billups in Detroit many years back.

I take it back, Marion would be a grand slam as well for the MLE.

I agree we absolutely need a killer offseason for the bench - better than we saw in 2008 and 2007.

Sheed, McDyess, Hill, Zaza, Gooden, Parker, Ross, Barnes, Herrmann, Andersen, Joe Smith, Wilcox, Nesterovic, Oberto (if bought out), Bowen (if bought out), Udoka are among the names on my wish list.

good topic

somebody is going to have to settle for the MLE and Marion is one guy that might fit the mold

in related news, did anyone see that Andre Miller is seeking 10M a year for 3 years or more?  I think he'll be disappointed

I am very very very very very very very sad

Rondo Miller
Allen House
Pierce Parker
KG   Sheed

pretty much is the recipe of my happiest wildest dream
Once a CrotorNat always a CROTORNAT  2 times CB draft Champion 2009-2012

Nice to be back!

Thats the trick. The Celtics need to go hard for 4-5 guys right away, and who ever will sign, take them!

Sheed, McDyess, Marion, Artest - if the reception is cold, move on to the next tier:

Hill, Zaza, etc.

Wow, if he went to Charlotte I would be shocked.  Larry Brown or not, how could he want to end his career playing out his days on a losing franchise (unless there is big money there?)

This really bugged me last year too.  I was really hoping that Danny would pursue Barnes.  I thought he would be a perfect Posey replacement (good defender, sometimes had to play PF for the run and gun Warriors, can knock down the three, etc.) but I don't even remember reading a rumor that Danny was even interested in him.  He was desired by many here on Celticsblog at the time, and I assumed that it never happened because he wanted a lot of money or a long contract.  But then he signed for the minimun on a one year deal with Phoenix.  We could have absolutely offered him the same deal here.

There is a pretty good crop of SF's out there right now.  I hope Danny doesn't miss out on one of them again.

I'm with you.  Danny took a more passive approach last year; sort of waiting to see who'd fall through the cracks in order to pick up a bargain, while better players kept signing elsewhere.   It was a failed strategy.  I hope he has a solid plan, knows who he wants, and pursues them aggressively before they sign elsewhere.  No more waiting to see who gets bought out.  Get 'em in here this summer.

Couldn't we do a sign and trade for our expiring contracts as well as a first and then use the MLE too?
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Marion has been a bit of an underachiever lately, but he's an intriguing player and has the skills to be a good fit.  I wonder, though, if the MLE will be enough.  Also, of course, spending the full MLE on a SF/PF would require us to fill the center hole using only the LLE and vet minimum, which might be tough.

we still have TA Scal and House(If he doesn't opt out) as expiring contracts which would equal to about 8 MIL. I think we could definitely get a legit backup Center in a salary dump. Maybe someone like Diop.

Danny will never take on Diop's long-term salary.

Which would be a very good judgement by Danny. Diop is not worth that contract!

marion would be great...but i don't think he'd sign. 1, he wants to get paid. 2, he wants to be the man. the guy wanted out of phoenix which was literally the perfect situation for him...he was getting paid, getting good numbers, and playing in a system perfectly made for him. i know his ego might have taken a hit with miami and toronto, but i dunno that he'd settle for being the 6th man who doesn't get numbers or paid more than the MLE on a championship team. if so, yes, he's perfect. if not (more likely), go hard after others.
