To me the idea of trading Perk is simply ludicrous. He is arguably the best defender in the NBA. Perk does as much if not more than Howard defensively, but without the flash.

Yes, I know Rondo deserves high praise 4 his performance in the playoffs. But Rondo is a liability on both ends. Most of it can be offset with effort. If he puts in the effort nightly there is no stopping him. But right now Perk is more valuable.

Best defender in the NBA?  I'll tell you what, have him check LeBron at the top of the key for 10 straight posessions and let me know how many times he stops him.

Actually, name ANY SG/PG/SF outside of 5 feet from the hoop and let me know how that works out.  Defense isn't just guarding down low.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Picking Perk over Rondo would be picking position/need over talent.

With the way Rondo has been playing I'm not sure that would be best for winning now, and I'm positive it's not for winning later.

Yeh, Perk is excellent at negating the offensive attack of the opponents center (if the center even has an offensive game (and there are very few centers who actually do), but he is not an all around great defender.  I think he's super valuable for what he does, but I also think we are starting overrate him a bit.

That said...keep the starting five as is.

Yeah, Rondo is such a bad defender that during the playoffs the team allowed -9.5 per 100 possessions with him on the floor. Also, he is such a liability on offense that team team scored +13.7 points per 100 possessions with him on the floor. Get rid of him already!

MVP - Great points... have people seriously lost their minds or is the offseason just that boring that we need to come up with some crazy stuff to stay occupied?

I have to disagree to a certain extent. He's become a good shot blocker when coming to help, and he's also become solid help defender. But he's not an elite defensive player as a whole.

Ok that's just dumb. Why bring Lebron up? Perk defends Centers, and is better than anyone else. He primary focus is defending the paint whether its down low or not. If I'm not mistaking Perk is either 2nd or 3rd at blocked shots. His weakside defense is a lot better than what people credit him with.

Obviously Defense isn't in Rondo's vocab. Instead of moving feet, too many times he get left to collect dust.

In terms of "winning now", I think Rondo is more replaceable that Perk.  Rondo has more potential, but I think it would be possible to replace him with a guy like Andre Miller or Jason Kidd and still have the offense function almost as effectively as it does now.  The loss of Perk on defense would be huge.

I can't believe the chatter that Rondo 'can't defend, can't lead, and can't shoot'...

Celtic fans we won a championship with Rondo, and he has
become our best point guard since Pitino traded Chauncey Billups.

It's tough to speculate what the off-season moves will bring back to the Celtics, what we have to understand is that Danny is working on making this team contenders for this season and
the seasons that follow.

I believe Danny does not want to let this team turn into the
'87-'92 Celtics where we competed each year, but productivity declined as we aged each year and did not move McHale, Parish, or Bird to get younger for the future.  Maybe we are 1-2 yrs away from making these kind of moves, well see?

It's true, Rondo's value is higher than it has ever been, but I believe there is more upside to Rondo in the future.

Danny has developed a few key bargaining chips and the interest level in these chips has to be pretty high.
Rondo, Ray's expiring contract, & Perkins value.

I'm not looking to lose either one of them, but I don't know that I'd agree with this. If you look at all of last year Rondo's contribution to the team was more than Perk's. He was arguably our mvp. Based on his career thus far I'd expect Rondo to play a bigger role on the team next year.
