Is it me or has anyone else noticed this? The last 3 years the ESPN's of the world and other media outlets are on a serious push to make bad teams such as Knicks better. Durring the 20 year absence from the finals the Boston Celtics never once recived a media push to get better that I can remember. I know for years it was the Celtics owners that held the team back but still that went unchecked by the media. Yet the knicks have been horrible for years and for the past 3 to 4 years every day it's about makeing them better so they can get the big name guy to save the team. Ya NY is a big money team but seriously I can't remember the media once trying to make the C's better. I can't. In fact it took a new owner and 3 former Celtics to make the C's better. Not one time in all those bad years did you hear all these talking heads in the national media try to make a push for the big name guy to go Celtics to get them better. Can someone else tell me why that is?
Also why is it that when ever they talk about the 2010 freeagent class not one of those guys ever gets mentioned to go to Boston. It's all about NY,LA & CLEAVLAND.
When in fact it would be in anyone of those 2010 freeagents best intrest to go to Boston as they can come here and play with guys like KG Paul Perk and Rondo ? Those four players are better than anyone the KNICKS have or will have to start the 2010 year and if any of those big name guys want to win and win right away then it would seem to me that Boston would be the team to go to.The owners would spent the money so thats no reason not to mention Boston.
But what do I know. I am just a fan and not a big named media guy.

In Boston's defense, I have friends in other parts of the country and they are SOOOO sick of watching ESPN and only seeing Boston teams. I agree the Celtics in particular didn't get much attention throughout the 90s (except the Pitino highlights), but frankly, they didn't deserve it. New York really is the exception to this rule and that is because they are so much bigger than any other city in the U.S.

As for Boston not being talked about in FAs in the 2010- that is because we already have a championship calibur team and no cap space...although with Wyc's new comments, who knows what might happen?

Another sensitive fan thread.

New York is always mentioned for the FA class because Dolan burns money, NY is the #1 market, and they have cap room.

We don't have cap room.

Add to this that there is little else to broadcast about the Knicks yet their fans represent a lot of viewers that advertisers want to sell to, and we would have to be brain dead to not expect some pandering to Knicks fans.

I have no idea what the OP was thinking when he mentioned LA & Clev being talked about for the 2010 FA class. Huh? Of course Clev gets talked about -- they need to re-sign Lebron. LA is never mentioned when there are discussion about 2010 FA class.

No need to play the victim.

I'm not playing the victim. ::) I am just stating the obvious the media does'nt want any boston team to win look at what they are trying to do with the Jets the last two years It's obviuse they want another team to talk about besides a boston team. I bet people around the country are sick of hearing about boston and there teams but if the teams wernt winning everything in site they would not even be a blip on the radar. That is my point. Boston area sports teams need to win just to get into a conversation. If they don't win they are not talked about at all. As for the cap room the owners will open the wallet for the right guy and don't think if they need to move some contracts to do it that they would'nt do that in a heart beat. It's not about that anyway it's about the media push to get bad teams good but when all the boston sports teams where loseing they were not pushed by the big media to get good and land big name freeagents.

What do you expect?  How many other teams have to win just to be mentioned?

Nobody talks about the Timberwolves, the Warriors, the Kings, the Bobcats....etc.  They aren't winning franchises.  If they won something, people would talk about them, even though they aren't in big markets.

Big market teams with big name players and teams that win get talked about.  That's how it works.

Also, team coverage is usually a reflection of what the fan base from an area is interested in.  Boston is actually a pretty big market and we get talked about a lot, but it's mostly the Red Sox followed by the Patriots because Boston fans tend to prefer baseball and football over basketball.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Dude, there are many many people who think that ESPN baseball is practically a Red Sox mouthpiece. The media has a strong bias TOWARD big East Coast cities. New York is first but Boston is a close second. LA gets tons of love because it's such a huge city, and Chicago gets attention too. But try talking to a fan from a city like St. Louis, Denver, Seattle, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Kansas City, DC, Minneapolis, Detroit, Houston (really anywhere but New York and LA), and telling them sports media doesn't pay any attention to Boston. Let me know how quickly you get punched in the face.
Go Celtics.

NY and LA are the sexy cities.  (not to mention the biggest media markets so many broadcasting companies see $$$ when the best players are there)

Well played, guava...but that's nothing unusual.   :D
