The "I Don't Want to Start a New Thread" Thread

So sometimes I have a topic that I can not decide whether its thread worthy or not. Yet, if I stick it in another thread it can get overlooked easily. So I thought maybe we could have this thread for such topics. To differentiate new topics from responses, I thought we could use @@@ as the symbol for a new topic.

Since topics will sometimes deal with the Celtics, sometimes deal with the NBA, sometimes deal with the community, etc, not sure where to put this thread, so maybe mods can see how this threads develops and then move it if necessary.

Starting things off:

@@@ Does it seem that Paul Pierce does not post up as much? I remember posting up a lot during the OB yrs and then kicking it out to Rogers or Delk or Tione or Strickland for jumpers. Watching this playoffs though and the fact that Ray and House couldn't get open often, I was thinking they needed someone to kick it back out from the post and we didn't have that. Is the reason Pierce's age or that he's shifted to more of a SF, so is going against bigger players (Though Salmons wasn't that big)?

  Kind of ironic that one of the more interesting looking thread starters of the offseason starts off with "I can not decide whether its thread worthy or not".

  Would it be  because Perk is our center and Rogers was, so the opposing center is closer to the rim now? Was EWill on that team? He'd have been the other main posting threat at the time.

It does seem to me that Paul Pierce 'enjoys' trailing the play a bit more now than in previous years. I think he was more of a shooting guard in those years to be fair, so the matchups were different. He does not Post Up as often as he once did, but neither does KG. Both seem to prefer the jumpers and fall away shots they find from the Pick and Roll.

Maybe that's our current 'playbook', who knows?

good question but its impossible (for me) to tell weather its a choich by Paul/Doc or because age is taking its toll, you would hope its a choich but i guess time will tell when next season starts up.

Only thing is Jordan actually became a post player when he did get older. Pierce should still have that in his arsenal.

This thread is a great idea, tp for you johnnyrondo! I find myself in this situation quite often too.

As for Pierce postup game I've not been following him since long enough to give you an appropriate answer, but I think that if he has some good postup moves he should use it more often, and KG should do the same thing. Still I think that Paul is way more confortable in his driving and shooting game, and age is part of the explanation of his game.

Ok 2 more topics that don't deserve their own threads:

@@@ Blocked Shots after a foul

Ok, so if a player gets fouled and hits the shot (an And 1) they are credited with one field goal attempt and 1 FG made. If they miss the shot, no field goal attempt. If the shot is goal tended, then again 1 FG attempt and 1 make. But if the shot is blocked on a continuation foul(like last night in the 1st quarter by Howard), the shot blocker does not receive a blocked shot. That seems unfair as the shot block has had an effect on the score. Thoughts?

@@@ Jameer Nelson should start for the Magic in Game 3

The backcourt the Magic were throwing out against the Lakers at the end of yesterday's game was the worst that i've ever seen in crunch time of a Finals game. I believe that SVG should go with Nelson, b/c he has the potential to actually be good whereas the rest of the options are erratic or just plain poor. Obviously you have to watch Nelson's minutes, but if you want to compete against the Lakers, you're going to have to have stronger weapons in the backcourt. Thoughts?

First off, I don't think Nelson should start, but I do think you have a valid point about him finishing the game.  He's still getting his game legs.  The Magic had "bad Rafer" last night, and I guess they must have had some reason not to go with more Nelson and more of Johnson, who I like in spot minutes.

    Yes I know Nelson is rusty, but I just don't think you can count on Rafer and guys like Reddick and Lee shouldn't be playing big minutes in the finals. Now you're in the desperate times call for desperate measures stage and I think playing the Jameer Nelson card might be your only hope. And if i started Nelson, i might be inclined to give the backup pg minutes to Johnson over Alston who would be moping.

I agree with you it should count as a block.  Are you sure that it doesn't?  If it really doesn't then I wonder why as well.. there's no reason or logic I can think of that would prevent the NBA from wanting to count it as a block.

Makes sense... I suppose a defensive foul shouldn't benefit the defense in a way after the whistle is blown like giving a center the ability to pad his stats.
