4 Al J
5 Kevin Durant

Howard - 1
Dirk - 2
Melo - 3
Manu - 5
Billups - 4

Great spacing, good D at the 1 and 5, good creators at the 2 and 3...

  • KG is da Man
Duncan-3
KG-1
Tayshaun Prince (?)
Wade- 2
Billups- 4

I still reckon Prince is still underrated, he's no go to guy but he might be one of the best 'sidekicks' in the league.

PG Rondo 5
SG Wade 2
SF Butler 4
PF KG 1
C Duncan 3

That could be a lockdown defensive unit if Butler and Wade try night in and night out.

The man shook his head. "O.J. doesn't give out his cell," he said. "He'll call you."

  • Rondo = Good
I like this game.

So first I'll establish my top 5's:

PG:
1. Chris Paul
2. Deron Williams
3. Tony Parker
4. Rajon Rondo
5. Devin Harris

SG:
1. Kobe Bryant
2. Dwyane Wade
3. Brandon Roy
4. Manu
5. Andre Iggs

SF:
1. LeBron James
2. Carmelo Anthony
3. Danny Granger
4. Kevin Durant
5. Caron Butler

PF:
1. Dirk Nowitzki
2. Pau Gasol
3. Kevin Garnett
4. Chris Bosh
5. Amare Stoudemire

C:
1. Dwight Howard
2. Tim Duncan
3. Yao Ming
4. Shaq
5. Al Jefferson

My picks:

C - Dwight Howard (1)
PF - Chris Bosh (4)
SF - Danny Granger (3)
SG - Dwyane Wade (2)
PG - Devin Harris (5)

The point guards were probably the hardest to rank, followed by the power forwards.  I wanted to fit Billups into the top 5 somehow but the numbers and performances for Rondo / Harris have been just too good this last season, even despite Billups' wealth of playoff experience.  As for the power forwards, there were a couple other guys posting 20-10 type numbers (Antawn Jamison, for instance) who I nevertheless thought weren't quite as great as Amare.  Amare could probably be higher than Bosh on the list if not for his injury issues.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

I know that this isn't the idea of the post but...

Can you imagine the team of

C - Howard
PF - Garnett
SF - James
SG - Kobe
PG - CP3

Holy hell!

3 of them are capable of triple doubles and the other 2 are walking double doubles.

Yeah well this is what the other national teams have to deal with in the olympics when they're playing Team USA (granted not the exact same group of guys).

And one other quick observation - doesn't this exercise put into perspective just how good the Celtics' starting five are? The disparity between many of these invented lineups and the Celtics' lineup is probably smaller than the disparity between the Celtics' starting five and the starting five of the majority of NBA teams.

1)Lebron James
2)Yao Ming
3)Pau Gasol
4)Chauncey Billups
5)Manu Ginobili

I would probably change around the top 5's of each, but using yours, this is the way i would go.

Duncan, Dirk, LeBron, Allen, Rondo. Duncan on the inside, Dirk and Ray on the perimeter, LeBron and Rondo slashing. Everyone but Dirk is very good defensively.

This was for one year, right?

C: Duncan (3)
PF: KG (1)
SF: Pierce (2)
SG: Ray (4)
PG: Rondo (5)

Basically, four of the starting 5 of the 2008 Champs with an upgrade in defense and offense (and BBIQ) at the center position.

I can only dream..
