I think he will get better.  He certainly hasn't reached his apex yet, that's still a few years off.  Hopefully the team can get him re-signed.  He is clearly going to be looking for a payday & if somehow, someway he develops a decent jumpshot, he will want to break the bank even more.

Say the Celtics win the NBA title next season, and Rondo is still unsigned past next year....Say a team like Memphis makes him a very lucrative offer, one the Celtics don't match dollar for dollar.  However, Boston offers him a better opportunity to keep winning.  Does anyone think he would jump to a team of Memphis' stature solely for the money?  I think about this sometimes.  He would already have two championships...most players are lucky to finish with even one. Everything could be strictly about his bankroll now.

I sort of think this is what's happening to Glen Davis.  A) His postseason play has inflated his ego a little bit...B) I'm sure someone has said, "You've already got the ring, now get the cash."  But, maybe that's just how it is in the league?  You are young, worry about getting paid first, title second....until you've made a good amount of money & you reach that age where you start to think "I've probably got about 2-3 good, effective years left."

So back to my question, anyone think Rondo would jump in the above scenario? If it did happen? I'm not saying it is going to.

Which could be one reason why Rondo's name is being tossed around out there.

I could be wrong, but I believe I've read somewhere that Wyc said Rondo won't be extended this summer. Only Wyc and Ainge know why that is, but if so, it's eye-opening.

Is it that we have no one else to pick on? In the past couple of weeks, Rondo's been made out to be the Celtic who has the most inconsistent play, the worst work ethic, and the biggest attitude problem. ???

And what is this nonsense about him being a 2nd team all defensive player? He stank on defense against the likes of Rafer Alston and Anthony Johnson. He's also very poor at defending the pick and roll, though he did get better, only to get worse again.
Do we forget that he was playing on bad ankles? And maybe he was helping our bigs defend Dwight Howard, as Doc mentioned in one of the pre- or post-game interviews. I'm not saying Rondo's defense was good during the Orlando series, but he didn't stink either.

Quote
If that's not all bad enough, he comes only 30 minutes before games, he fights with teammates (just ask Paul Pierce... he said he's come close to duking it out with him on a few occassions because he's so hard headed... said it in an EEI interview), and he makes poor decisions when he calls the shots.
Reports of attitude problems - who defines what is a "problem" anyway? Stubbornness in the every day world might be a bad thing, but both Doc and Danny think Rajon's stubbornness has mostly been a good thing. And I remember a WEEI interview where Danny dismissed Paul and KG's comments about Rondo's hardheadedness by saying that Paul and KG were the two most stubborn players on the team. And making poor decisions is an indication of being young, which he is.

Quote
Remember that Christmas game in LA when Rondo took an ill advised three and Ray Allen yelled at him saying he was open. They did this on national TV! How embarrassing! And Rondo also recently got into a yelling match with Doc in a practice (maybe 2-3 months ago) because Doc was criticizing his passes and decision making skills. This happened in practice of course, but it was televised.
Exactly - it was televised. That's all you get to see. Does it make sense to create a full profile of Rondo by extrapolating a few plays and a single footage of a shouting match? By every account now, he gets along well with his teammates and has the support of the entire Celtics organization, including Danny and Doc.

All I know is this. Rondo better stick to being a pass first point guard or I'll want him traded while his value is high.

Why, you ask?

Because, if you look at points per attempt for all of the Celtics starters, Rondo is the lowest. In other words, Rondo really needs to recognize that he is the last option on offense. The moment he takes more shots away from pp, ray, kg, and even perk, the worse we are as a team.

I used to be one of his biggest fans. But I was very discouraged with his output in the Magic series. People say he's already an elite PG, and that he deserves a pass because he's got a title under his belt. Well let me say something. He is too inconsistent and passive. In fact he's passive most of the time. Defenses know how to react to his shot AND penetration, but they give him free shots anyway because they know if they sag off him he'll miss most of the time. So they're guaranteed to get the defensive board.

And what is this nonsense about him being a 2nd team all defensive player? He stank on defense against the likes of Rafer Alston and Anthony Johnson. He's also very poor at defending the pick and roll, though he did get better, only to get worse again.

I hope we get a good big man and some defensive players for Rondo. You know, guys who actually PLAY defense.

Possibly the worst post/thread of 09.

I doubt you have many fellow Rondo haters here.

Re: his output in the Magic series...

Wasn't the plan to live and die with Rafer Alston's jump shot? I'm pretty sure that was the plan and Rondo played it to perfection. Only problem is that Alson decided to shoot the lights out in that series.

As you may have seen in last night's Finals Game 1 - Alston is hit or miss. He was terrible last night and the Lakers decided to close out hard on Hedo and Lewis.

Even the best of teammates/friends fight. Certainly you must know this.

Gotta love reading "Possibly the worst post/thread of 09." from someone who's username is "youcanthandlethetruth113". I guess you think people CAN handle the truth. Oh, the irony...

I always get a chuckle out of those who claim that if you don't acknowledge that Celtic X is the finest (insert position here) in the game, you're a hater.

No room at all to consider that maybe Rondo isn't the greatest guard in the game? That he has definitive holes in his game? That he needs to improve? Play harder more consistently?

Chuckle. If that's hating, then you're going to find coaches and execs in the Celtics front office who qualify as haters.

Rondo is the best passer in the N.B.A. and will be in the Hall of Fame.

we'll talk when he's been in the league for 7 years

If Lebron broke his ankle right now and never came back the same, he's not a HOFer, and he's Lebron

I do think Rondo will be an all-star next year, but I think its a little premature to use the HOF label

Both ends of the spectrum

1)  Rondo is not some sort of cancer player that has to be removed.

2)  Rondo is not some sort of un-tradeable superstar.

Rondo is a young improving PG that can be special.  He has a place on the Celtics.

And unless the Celtics get their socks knocked off with an offer, he isn't going anywhere.

no player is perfect, especially someone as young as rondo.  his positives FAR outweigh his negative attributes.  he is at a high level now and most likely will only get better.  he's a keeper!

Uhhh I'm dumbfounded! Rajon Rondo is THE future of this team. He's 22 years old and i think he is [dang] good!

. . . Rondo's been made out to be the Celtic who has the most inconsistent play, the worst work ethic, and the biggest attitude problem. ???

Among the starters, all of those things might be true.  He absolutely *is* inconsistent, and his attitude has rubbed some guys the wrong way.  I'm not sure about his work ethic, but there are at least some questions raised by him coming to the arena just before tip-off at least twice during the playoffs.

Those things don't mean we should trade him for a sack full of rocks, though.  However, the kid has a ways to go before he's a superstar, and he's certainly not above criticism.

Here's a good article that shows some of the ups and downs of Rondo: Link.
