So we all know Ray Allen is signed only through next year, and that Lebron James can opt out of his contract after next year.

Ray's $18.8M will come off the books.  James' option for 2011 is only for $17.8M (he's due $15.8M next year), so the money's gonna be close.

With all the money he makes off the court, he will probably be more concerned about contending rather than making an extra mil or two.  Imagine if he had Perk, KG, PP, and Rondo on the starting lineup with him.

And if the NBA is so intent on marketing a James-Bryant rivalry, what better team for the king to join than the Celtics.  It'll be like Russell-Wilt all over again.

We'll still be over the cap next yr. We can resign Ray b/c we have his Bird rights, but wouldn't be able to offer Lebron anything near his value.

We don't have the money and Lebron is nowhere near the point in his career where he is going to settle for less than top dollar to play on a contending team.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to be the new Boston LeBrons.

Copy that.

And how do you fit Pierce, Garnett, James and Rondo into the same starting lineup. We'd be big and we'd be great defensibly, but what about offensibly?
Who would take the last shot?
Who would run the point?
During the previous season (2008-2009) Rajon and Paul both took care of creating. Now a third guy to ballhogg?
You have to have certain roles in every team and I just don't like the idea of two point-forwards and a point guard on a same team. That just wouldn' work.

LeBron on this team would in all
probability mean 75 (or more) wins.
I wouldn't consider him a problem;
I actually find that notion silly.

LBJ is not coming and that's just
fine by me. When healthy, we rule
this league.

People who don't want the best player in basketball at the tender age of 25 need to have their head examined.

I can't stand Lebron.  But I agree with you. ;D

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
The only way we can sign Lebron is if:

1) We don't sign Rondo to a significant extension;

2) We renounce Ray Allen, meaning we can sign him for no more than the minimum;

3) We don't sign any players to a MLE contract that extends into the summer of 2010;

4) Paul Pierce opts out of his contract, and agrees to sign a near-minimum contract.

5) We have a roster of KG, Perk, Rondo, Pierce (at or near the minimum), and a bunch of other guys making the minimum.

Under those specific circumstances, we *may* have room to add Lebron.

I agree that it would never work financially. But the people who say he wouldn't fit don't make much sense. So what's the problem, we would have too much talent? too much versatility? Too many open shots created? The winning would become boring?

I thought all that "Who takes the last shot?" nonsense went away. We already answered that question with the Big 3. NBA players are capable of passing to an open teammate, especially HOF-caliber teammates.

In otherwords it won't happen, but I would love to have Lebron.  I'd trade Pierce and Garnett to get Lebron for the next six years (not that the cavs would do it even if the money worked).

The way I read it is that Cleveland has set themselves up to be able to pay him the most.

NY will be able to throw a nice contract, not as nice as Cleveland's but Bron would be able to make more in NY with all the endorsements. NY would be the only place I could see Bron leaving Cleveland for.

THis would be a huge slap in the face to Cleveland, basically leaving his hometown hanging out to dry. I like lebron and just hope he stays in Cleveland.
