I think it would be a great idea to sign either one of these guys to be the 3d guy in the rotation of bigs.  Who would you rather have?

Rasheed would be great for the entertainment factor.  He's also taller than McDyess, with greater range on his shot.  But McDyess seems more consisent and professional.  Tough call, but I think I'd rather get Sheed.  He and KG in the game together would be tough, and probably the most foul-mouthed frontcourt tandem in league history.

But seriously, getting one of these guys would really shore up the rotation and solve the C's backup big problem.  Perk/Garnett/Sheed or McDyess could each play a manageable 32 minutes a game, with Scal thrown in to reduce minutes as necessary.  The team could then even look at signing and trading Baby for a needed backup wing player.

If he's rejuvinated (and I think he would be, playing here), I'd rather have 'Sheed to back up the center spot.  Dice could play the 5 a little bit, but he's more of a classic PF, 'Sheeds addition height and bulk seems to help make him a little better defender down low.  Either would help A LOT, and I really hope we end up with one of them.  Dice would probably be a little pricier, and Detroit's going to want to bring him back if at all possible ('Sheed's not returning).

But, I agree; upside to Sheed is likely a little cheaper and maybe a bit better at backing up the 5, upside to Dice is more professional and maybe a little bit better player at this point.

I prefer McDyess, he shows up for every game unlike Sheed, he is a great competitor, good rebounder, good defender and he seems like a good teammate.

Sheed is more skilled but he is far too inconsistent, and he is often too busy with the refs. Plus, realistically, we can't afford him (he wants 8M$).

Why not both? Scales are tipping in Sheed's favor though.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Sheed.

Wallace can play PF or C, has range up to the 3pt line, can still get good shots for himself, and is a better defender. McDyess is a better rebounder, but I think Wallace is better in all other areas. Add in the personality I think Sheed wins out just because he's a bit nuts.

Sheed. He is a 7 footer who can provide length moreso then McDyess. He also has great range. Think about putting KG/Sheed together in the frontcourt - one a great midrange shooter and another a pretty good 3 point shooter. Rondo would be salivating. Lastly, this would be Dwight Howard's worst nightmare. First, he has Perk to deal with. Then we would have Sheed coming off the bench who can defend him very well and can also pull him out of the paint with his 3 point shooting on offense.

Sheed would be my #1 choice. I would be happy with McDyess though.

I feel the need for Sheed. He can bring his 32 kids and 24 women to the games and really add to the family atmosphere at the Garden

In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

Sheed's bigger, a better shooter, a better rebounder and shot blocker.
Antonio gets more rebounds and rebounds at a higher rate. I think either would fit pretty well. I'm prefer Mcdyess simply because I know he could be counted on to play hard off the bench every night. Rasheed not so much.

I just don't see Rasheed taking a lesser roll here and being happy with it.  I also haven't seen a whole lot of consistency from him the last couple of years.

In a perfect world, Rasheed would be an outstanding 6th man.

I'd still take my chances on McDyess filling the role better than Sheed (given the choice)
Yup

McDyess!  He brings it every night and he rebounds.  Sheed hangs out at the 3 point line and doesn't rebound.  He's also lazy and over the hill.
