Perk is simply not giving anything to Howard one on one. He is playing him to a stand still. When Howard tries to back Perk down, Perk is forcing him to heave up brick hook shots from further out than he wants to shoot. He is rebounding and blocking shots with Howard. The biggest feat of all is the fact that Perk is not getting into foul trouble. In my book, Perk is one of the biggest reasons that we are still playing in the playoffs. Keep it up big man - keep it up!

Yet Howard still manages to get 23 points and 17 boards.

still if we dont have perk we would have to resort to double, thus making them free to take thos threes

Put it all in context though.  Howard averaged 20 during the regular season (probably against a lot of double teams) and 24 against Philly.  Against Boston, he's averaging a paltry 17/game and that's going one on one against Perk.

Also, we've outrebounded Orlando in every single game so far this series, and that's without Kevin Garnett and Leon Powe, two of our top five rebounders.  That's the thing about Howard, getting double doubles isn't that impressive cause he gets to clean up the easy defensive boards all by himself.

Going a little deeper in the rebounding numbers.  Check out the massive drop in offensive boards Howard is getting.  From 4.3/game in the regular season and 5.6/game in the Philly series to just 3.3/game against the Celts.  Considering a large part of his game is putbacks off offensive boards, that's a wonderful job by Perk and the Celts.

Perk is the main reason we are still in this series. Without him Orlando's whole game opens up. Within 4 feet of the basket Perk is the best defender in the game.

I love Perk!  He has definitely held his own against Howard and I agree that he is the main reason we are still in this series!   After so many years of being the only one on the Perk bandwagon,  it sure feels good to have company on it!

This is the perfect matchup for him to be playing as KP43 gets the shaft on the All-defensive team. He loves playing against dwight, and he really does a good job of exploiting his lack of offensive game.

yet his team shoots an atrocious percentage from 3pt because we didn't have to double, thus leaving us free to contest, and it took howard a high number of shots to get an inefficent 23 points....

I could only hope the Celtics were as inefficient as he was, 14 shots, 23 pts.

Perkins has been the most consistent Celtic this playoffs.  Guy has really stepped up his game this spring and he's contributing huge on both ends of the floor.  If he can practice that baby hook in the offseason and get it dropping the way Davis' jumpers have gone this season (after all that offseason practice), then he is going to very good.

I just hope that shoulder holds up.

thats not good for a guy who routinly shoots high 60's to low 70's.

A shooter getting 23 on 14 is great, thats 1.64 a shot.

but all howard does is dunk or a jump hook from a foot away (when he's on). he shoots a ridclously high precentage, and him taking 14 shots to get 23, and that doesn't even include his FT's, is fine with me.

Not to mention, as many others have, that the fact perk can accomplish that playing him one on one (other teams dream of keeping howard at 59% shooting with a double team) allows us to play the premiter shooters tight, limiting thier 3 point attempts and makes.

Perk is the reason we have a chance to steal ( and i do mean steal without kg ) this series.

Agreed with the posters who say Perk is The Man!

Playing Howard straight-up to something like a draw, not getting in foul trouble, enabling the other guys to defend the perimeter, adding some offense: unreal.  He is better than I ever thought he'd be.

My hat is off to Perk.

23 points on 14 shots is very efficient, but I'm more impressed that Perk can hold him to those 14 shots.  And out of that 8-14 shooting performance from Howard, I doubt many of those came off one-on-one situations with Perkins.  They mostly came from offensive rebounds when Perk had to switch on defense.

But if you look at the series as a whole so far, you've got a 20-14-3 guy going up against an 8-8-2 guy, and their series numbers are 17-16-2.8 to 11-11-2.5.  Perk has shortened the gap between the two players in KG's absense, and that has been huge for this team.

Perkinite!

That's a good name, but somebody else has already thought of that name. Him and Glen Davis have done yoemen work on defense and rebounding.

We just need those other three to stay between their man and the basket so we don't lose rebounding position for having to rotate on defense.
