Why not run plays for Ray? / Last Play Vent! (merged)

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
Why are Pierce and Rondo taking the potential game winning shots, rather than Ray Allen?  Hasn't Ray proven himself time and time again?  It's not like he wasn't having a good game.  The last play for Rondo is especially mind-boggling, as Ray had just hit a couple of clutch shots.

I'm very frustrated.  I can't remember the last time I saw such poor decision making.  Rondo has been phenomenal, but I'm convinced that his terrible decision cost us a shot at that game.

I'm with ya bro.  And not only is Rondo taking the shots, but he's taking contested jump shots!  You've gotta drive to the rim and get to the line in that situation.  Rondo did not play within his abilities that last play.

Roy, there is no good answer to that question.  None.  There's no good reason why Ray "Hot Hands" Allen didn't get to lead our offense more throughout the end of that game.

The players own some of the responsibility, though.  When they don't have a good look, they need to pass the ball; both Pierce and Rondo had plenty of time to look at other options.

I was telling myself the way HOF Ray Allen was playing tonight, that even if he missed a game winning or game tying 3 in the end of the 3rd OT, I wouldn't be upset. I was shocked that Rondo didn't pass it to Ray! Seems like Paul Pierce (wanting to be "The Man" and hit the game winning shot) and KG (overly aggressive, throwing Hinrich and the Miller Incident) are rubbing off on Rondo.

Just another example of the poor coaching in this game.  I already started a thread on his decision to replace BBD with TA. :-\

Ray was hot and is clutch.  Don't know why he didn't even touch the ball. :'(

Two critical possessions with the guy who kept us alive sitting unmolested.

I'm not sure enough what plays were called to be critical, because this one may be just terrible judgment - which Rondo displayed all night - by two guys with the basketball.

why run plays for yo best playa?

they will always look for ray or paul to get the rock

make plays for scalabrine..he can hit that 3pt and who would expect that..there is no surprise runnin plays for our big 2

big 3 including rondo...maybe big four wit big baby

We lost this gm b/c Rondo played scared and didn't play like he did the first five games and also b/c Doc for some odd reason took out Baby in place of Tony Allen. We could all have been sleeping an hr and a half ago.

But you are absolutely right. First, the idiotic crap with Hinrich - which has the potential to hurt us badly for Saturday night.

Then, a hideously passive game. No dribble penetration whatsoever.

And then, a classic drive and dish situation where Rondo makes the worst possible decision, one that cost us the game and may play a big role in ending our season. TP to you for the thread.

You're right.  I wouldn't call for him to get fired for this, obviously.  It's not like anybody said Ray should have been kicked off the team after he had a horrible night in the first game.  Coaches are allowed to make mistakes, too.

But Doc really effed up towards the end of this game.

None of that has anything to do with HORRIBLE game management in the last two minutes of regulation.

Putting Tony Allen into the game cost this team a series-clinching win in regulation. It was a mind-numbingly dumb move.
