I agree I did break it down very simplisticly, but it seems that in Isiah's case it's pretty cut and dry. Every place he has been hired at, he has left it in worse shape than when he got there. The CBA went bankrupt while he was running the show, and then he did a poor job in Toronto. I think everyone could agree that the Knicks were a trainwreck under him.
I would agree he is a decent evaluator of young talent, as his draft history, while not spectacular, is better than the average GM out there. I think the problems with him start when he is given the keys to the car, so to speak. In college hoops, the coach often calls all the shots when it comes to recruiting, personnel, etc. Isiah does not have a good track record when he is in charge of overall leadership and decision-making.
