Disappointing news, but really not a big surprise.

I remember sitting in my hotel room last month and watching ESPN, when I first saw the bottom-of-the-screen crawler tell me “Kevin Garnett Out (Knee),” even though he’d just returned to action. Simply didn’t make sense.

So now there is a possibility that the current #5 like the last #5 (of any note, that is) may just play one meaningful season for the Celtics.  It also means that the green won’t have much clout in the free agent market next summer. You could say we haven’t had any clout in the past two summers, either. Well, a healthy KG and back-to-back championships might have increased the chances of the Celtics landing Sheed.

In any event, it’s time to thank Danny for the one championship he brought us. I waited 22 years for it, and really had resigned myself to the fact that I wouldn’t see another in my lifetime. When KG started talking directly to his Mom during the post-game 6 Michelle Tafoya interview, screaming “Top of the World,” it was the first time I’d cried since my son was born five years earlier, and that was the first time I cried since my Dad died seven years before that.

The Celtics are a powerful force in my life.

But I’m cool with da green. Cuz they’ve been a part of my life for more than 30 years.

Hey, maybe Doc will revert to small ball--House, Marbury, Pierce, Allen, and Rondo!
