One idea that I think maybe Dubs threw out, is to have a consolation playoff bracket to "win" the #1 overall pick. Maybe the winner of the consolation bracket gets the #1 pick, then lottery of the bottom 5 for picks 2-6...

The reason i like it is rewards teams for continuing to improve their team through the end of the season.

I don't know about this. A team could tank to get into consolation bracket contention, and then turn it on during bracket play to get the #1.

The #1 pick should go to an active manager, but ultimately, I think it should be about stimulating parity.

Ideally, I'm looking to trade a couple of these players for one of yours, or one of these players for a draft pick. Many of these players could even be had for a 2nd rounder.

Keep in mind, I also now have three 1st rounders to offer to a team looking to rebuild.

I'd go one step furhter Roy --- i dont' think it works at all in the H2H league for the reason you point out.

I'm not a big fan.  Let's say there's a truly horrible team, with an owner who is active but just has a crappy team.

If you close him out from the opportunity to get the Lebrons, Howards, and Walls of the world, I worry that he'll never have the chance to make a big leap forward (and there's no way a terrible team will win a tournament.)

Also, if I'm sitting with the #8 seed in the playoffs, I'd be very tempted to tank for the #9 position, especially if a superstar was sitting there to be had.  Adding a guy like John Wall to a roster is worth sitting out a year in the playoffs.

good point, maybe the consolation winner (8 team winner bracket, 8 team consolation, 4 teams not in playoffs) becomes the 5th team in the lottery?

H2H, with its weekly matchups, seems to engender higher levels of activity, I think.

Points league allows people to set their rosters on autopilot, and tune out for stretches at a time. I'm much more worried about inactivity and tanking there.

Somewhat agree, the playoffs and week to week competition did produce a higher level of activity, but there was still a fair amount of jockeying both for playoff seeding and for better draft position, it's just less obvious than in a league that counts roster moves. That said, it didn't hurt my enjoyment.

Since suggesting it last summer, I've since been dissuaded from awarding the winner of the consolation bracket the 1st pick. I do like GC's new suggestion of awarding the winner some higher pick. I'm also still in favor of a broad even odds lottery.

This worries me less. Looking at last season, we had a very competitive 8th seed and several teams that ought to have been competitive for the 7th and 8th seeds but weren't.

Another roster shortening move for me. Again, reluctant to deal Wright, who may put up some nice numbers in Golden State this year. The 1st rounder puts another chip in my pocket, though.

As a very partial party who made offers on Wright, I don't love the Commissioner's return. I like both Wright and Anderson too much.

While this along with the deal for Gibson are both low risk, high upside moves by GC. He's in the hunt!

You definitely made some good arguments on why I ought to keep both Anderson and Wright, Dubs. But I felt the clock was ticking towards roster cut-down day, and I felt OK with the return.

I agree that GC looks to haven gotten the better of the deal, for right now. We'll see how things unfold this season.

I'm blushing.... such praise from THE walker wiggle  

But as i wrote to L17 after the deal, while I like my guys that i got, there's significant enough risk on both sides to make it pretty even IMO... one of those deals not about need as much as differing educated guesses on long term value of guys.

all pieces involved could boom, all could bust just as easily.

I am pretty high on Anderson though... have him now (along with Big Al) in both the Points and H2H league

On another topic, I'm entertaining offers on Kenyon Martin in the h2h league.

Yes, He's gonna miss the first month or 2 of the season, but would be a great addition for a contender in the h2h league b/c he should be fully healthy for the playoffs.

I think i might still be a year away from the playoffs if i miss that production from him those first 2 months.
