What other announcer can come up with "Tommy Points" and "Criminally Negligent Officiating". Tommy gives insight into Celtic history past and present. As a Celtic fan I cannot listen to other announcers. Mike and Tommy are like friends watching the game with me and making me notice things I wouldn't have otherwise.

I still like Max a lot better

worst Tommy line of the day - Celtics are down 22 with 2 minutes to go in the half, and Heinsohn says, if they can get it to 10 by the half they'll be ok...Mike basically said, how bout 15? and Tommy again said 10 is where they need to be...

Eh, whatever. People make mistakes, as Tommy did in that instance. That sort of comment is not something that really bothers me, especially coming from a guy that I love listening to so much.

I don't see how you get on Tommy for saying silly things, but support a guy whose key contribution to broadcasts is "Quack, quack, quack, quuuuuuaaaaaaaaack".

Agreed...I happened to be in my car during the 1st quarter today, and Grande mentioned Scal being out with a concussion, and Max randomly made some sort of comment about Scal's wife being pregnant, trying to make a joke or comment implying the concussion and pregnancy were somehow related.

Grande tried to get him to explain and/or elaborate; I think Max realized what he said made no sense at all, so he just made a strange sound and mumbled a few words, then changed the subject.  Just really strange stuff, he is the worst.

Tommy was correct when he said 10 was where the Celtics needed to be at the half, what's wrong with that? He teachers viewers a lot about basketball and the Celtics with his unvarnished truth and he's a mensch besides.

You guys are crazy.  Cedric Maxwell is completely awesome.  When Tommy unfortunately has to retire, I would love Max as the new guy.  Although some of the things he says are completely inane and make no sense, there is really no more entertaining way to hear a game.

For me, "He was making toast but didnt have any bread", is brilliant.

Also Grande isnt nearly as bad as you guys make him sound.  I think Grande does a great job.  He calls it well, interjects good opinions, and is entertaining all at the same time.  Him and Max are perfect together.

On the other hand...if and when we start hearing "donny points" on a regular basis i might have to kill myself.

Ugh, Grande. I agree with whoever said he must have a bunch of mirrors in his house. Max's "I got the ball!" during the call that Grande had obviously prepared for his entire life was so awesome for many reasons.

I like Max and Tommy. I too sometimes will watch the ESPN telecasts because of their higher quality HD, but they annoy me with their stupid stat graphics that make the game feed tiny. CSN gets to me with their scores at the bottom of the screen that distorts the screen like mad.

If it's Breen and JVG or Jackson, I'll watch ESPN. Anyone else, and I'll go with Gorman (The Godfather) and Tommy. It's an automatic turn of the station if there is a blatant call/no call that's not in the Celtics favor and the national shills don't even notice.

They had that conversation after Dickerson had reported that Doc said that in the under 3 minute TV timeout.  I guess he was the one with the worst line of the day.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

He was completely right on that one.  He was saying that in order for the Celtics to win, you gotta cut that lead and the earliest the better.  Notice how the Celtics made a comeback, but they eventually lost because they ended up running out of time.  Had they started that run a little earlier, like at the end of the second half, then we would have won that game.  That's what you gotta say as a coach and that is what a team needs to do in that kind of situation.

Tom Heinsohn: 9 rings (7 as a player, 2 as coach) As a ROOKIE in 1957, he was the best player in game 7 of the NBA finals, scoring 37 points with 25 rebounds.

Hubie Brown: Zero rings (although Hubie won an ABA title as coach of the Kentucky Colonels, so at least he proved he could win in a weaker league with a loaded team).

Jon Barry: Zero rings
Jeff Van Gundy: Zero rings
Doug Collins: Zero Rings
Mark Jackson: Zero Rings
Reggie Miller: Zero Rings
Chris Webber: Zero rings
Avery Johnson: One ring as a player (thank you, Tim Duncan), Zero rings as a coach
Charles Barkley: Zero rings
Kenny Smith: Two rings as a player (thank you, Hakeem), Zero rings as a coach

and lest we forget...

John Hollinger: Zero rings

Congratulations for winning the Irrelevant Post of the Day Award. What does this post even mean? To be a good analyst you have to have championship rings? Then you discount Kenny Smith and Avery Johnson because they were only championship role players? Did you think Isiah was a good analyst for the NBA on NBC? You conveniently left Magic Johnson off that list. None of that post made any sense.

I mean John Hollinger? Are you saying that no NBA writers on the planet are qualified to talk about basketball because they haven't won a championship ring?

I understand not liking the analysts. But using a lack of championship rings? What?

I think you went a little overboard on this reply. Yea, having championship rings is not a requirement for being a good anouncer, and there are many good anouncers without rings, but having won a championship or 9 means you know a lot about the pro game and can give some good insight compared to someone who never played in the finals for example

If I have a choice of espn or tnt's announcers vs Comcast I watch espn and tnt every time.  I really enjoy Hubie and Jeff Van Gundy.  I still love Tommy but after listening to him for over 20 years I already know what he's going to say before he says it.

I like Dickerson a lot, he's a fan.

Also - very glad Cousy isn't doing the games anymore. He would probably start wandering around the hallways during timeouts

Cousy had that annoying voice and was always negative,(had his reasons) when we had all those bad years before KG. Tommy's always been overly protective of his Celtics and even when they were terrible he always talked them up. I loved the fact that Tommy is a true homer when it comes to the Celts. Lately it has been overboard but I rather have that then some boring announcer.
