1. I'm pretty sure everybody is kidding around and here, not really trying to give people nicknames... At least I know I am.

2. How do players get a nickname all on their own without it being given to them? Do they buy them at a store? I don't get it.

1.  The sarcasm never shows over these boards.  I forgot to do the " :P"

2.  There actually is a store.  It is run by Shaq.  Did you not know that Pierce had to pay him $20 to have him nickname him "The Truth"

haha only $20? I think I bought a "The Truth" headband for $20 when I was like 14. I guess Pierce is a pretty savvy businessman.

Do we seriously have to have a nickname for two players who will get very little playing time and play for the Celtics for a whole 20+ regular season games and some playoff games in their Celtic careers?

Aren't we pushing this whole nickname thing a little too much here?

I mean did we come up with nicknames for the Cassell/Brown additions last year?

I just don't get the whole "let's think up nicknames" stuff. Most players will get a nickname all on their own and never need to be given one.

Vinny Johnson got his after coming and heating it up so often that Kevin McHale said he was like a microwave.

Paul Pierce got his after a great west coast trip where Shaq commented about the emergence of Pierce by calling him the truth.

Robert Parish got his because his team mates thought his quite, stoic demeanor reminded them of the Chief character in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".

Nicknames that are given from contests or conversations trying to come up with nicknames almost never stick or work. Nicknames just happen sometimes.

Am I wrong in saying that in each of those instances the nicknames were indeed "given" to the players who earned them?

haha... I'm sorry I'm just messing with you, not trying to start a big argument.

Redz, I think you have earned the right to give nicknames to anybody you want.

I'm pretty sure Vinnie Johnson got his nickname from Danny Ainge, not McHale.

You could drunk-drive and slam into the side of another car on the way home.  I hear that's popular around here; gotta live a little, you know?

Now that I think about it, I think you're right.

My contribution to the nickname dilemma:  "the bench"!  No further nickname needed.     My nickname for KG, PP, RA, KP and RR:  "the starters".  Shows a lack of imagination, I know.  At least I didn't name my dog "Dog".   ;D

Do you get a TP for each of your posts? I think that's the best TP-Post ratio I've ever seen. Congratulations! I'll give you a TP just for that.
