Trevor Ariza has always caught my eye as a role player, energy guy. But i think that those roles in the future are gonna be filled by JR and Billy Walker.

so that would make me lean towards a backup Center
--------------------------------------------------------

Mikki Moore i would like to keep if he'd stay for CHEAP money, and if we win a championship he might.

Raef Lafrentz- after the embarrassment of not playing a game and people only wanting you for an expiring contract he might be willing to sign for his actual worth, Kansas alum, former celtics, old man with no ring

-------------------------------------------------------

And for backup PG i would resign Pruitt to retake the role that he almost had this year before Stephon's arrival.

I love the minimum-to-MLE options for this summer. 2008 was kinda sucky.

Rasheed Wallace
Antonio McDyess
Joe Smith
Grant Hill
Zaza Pachulia
Anthony Parker
Stromile Swift
Rasho Nesterovic
Wally Szczerbiak
Josh Childress
Ime Udoka
Quentin Ross
etc.

Sheed and Grant Hill would be near ideal!

Yeah, I'd target these two, as well.  We could use a backup point, but having Hill on the roster would mitigate that somewhat.

Allen Iverson ready to sign for the cheap (MLE) in order to win a championship. He would be one of the best 6th men we've had in recent memory.
no.
Practice? Whatchu talkin about practice?

Ariza is a really nice player. If LA was willing to keep Vuja-crap for 5 mil per, they will pony up more for Ariza. He's off the list.

Pruitt may fit as a full time backup PG next year. He's making strides.

Moore is an option too... but i'd go hard for Sheed, McDyess, Smith, Pachulia.

LaFrentz is done. You can't rely on him for a season health-wise.  :-\

I had targeted Iverson this summer, before Rondo broke out last year. Since then I think the C's MLE is best spent on one or 2 of the talented forwards available this summer.

Well this is an interesting topic.

First, they have to choose between Powe and BBD.  My guess is that one stays, the other goes.

Sheed is the perfect fit for Rivers' offense.

I love Anthony Parker.  Just a player's player.  But he's not young any more and may return to Europe.

I have no interest in Grant Hill.  He's almost finished. As for Iverson, just say no.

Some others not on the list

Jason Kidd-- not a bad backup for Rondo
Antonio McDyess
Ron Artest
Lamar Odom
Andre Miller-- not a personal fave of mine, but ok as a backup

I think there will be quite a few veterans who used to make big money who will be available for Bobby Abreu money.  The days of exhorbitant contracts for players in the second half of their careers is over.  Completely.

if we only sign one of the Powe/Baby combo we could use Moore to replace the other (along with the development of the one we keep)

that would leave Raef as the Scott Pollard bench warmer/ insurance plan guy. i'm talking about him coming in during blowouts and when everyone else is in foul trouble.

McDyess is on mine for sure!!!
LA will surely resign Odom for slightly above the MLE. We dont have a shot.
Kidd would be a sweet backup... but i think he and the boston fans hate each other.  ;D
Artest and Miller could work... no idea if their value of themselves will drop by the time the summer rolls around.  :P

Lets get Sheed and McDyess!!! What!!!??? Hahahaha.  :o

I don't understand how many of the players mentioned in this thread would take short money or cheap deals to play for us. Sure, many will want to play for a contender, but not if it means playing 10-15 minutes a night as a backup.

And while we might perceive them as being in the twilight of their careers, maybe they don't see it that way. For many, this may well be the last contract they ever sign. They will want to make the most of it. Full MLE, and for some, max length full MLE.

On the flip side, do you think Grant Hill or McDyess are looking for much more than the minimum? These guys are filthy rich and just want to win.

And do you think Sheed really thinks he's gonna get a 5 year deal at age 35?

Sheed would easily get 24 minutes per game on the Celtics. McDyess, Hill , Smith, etc would get about 18. Thats what they should expect on a contender.

Hill, McDyess and Wallace may not be seeking 5-year deals, but I have a hard time believing any of them would play for a one-year minimum deal. Those are three former All-Stars, all of them still playing significant minutes on playoff caliber teams. They will command what the market will bear, and the cardinal rule of signing free agents is that you have to overpay for them.

If we're still willing to spend a little to make another push, next year would be a terrific time to do so. We'll be in our best shape to make moves since before we brought KG in.

Garnett's salary drops by almost 8 million next year, I believe, while Ray and Paul's deals go up only marginally so letting one of Davis and Powe walk and going all out for Rasheed with like a one or two year MLE deal and then retaining Moore would be ideal. Then hopefully add Quinton Ross on top of that, and it'll be a pretty good offseason, I think.

And I almost forgot, but if Eddie picks up his option we'll have multiple assets to trade in the forms of expiring contracts. We'll be able to match a 9 million dollar salary with Scals, Tony, and Eddie alone. And with today's cost cutting markets, we could easily add another bug time piece to maintain our run at a championship for a while longer. Hopefully we'll make another call to Sactown about Nocioni.
