How about this?  I think I'd do it, and Charlotte may as well.  I'd REALLY hate to see Ray go though...

Just go back and watch "He Got Game" again and you'll be thinkin, "We trade Jesus for Gerald who?  ;)

Really though, I too think we need some improvement before we head into the playoffs, but there's no reason to toss the baby with the bathwater and majorly overhaul this championship caliber team like that IMO.

so how are ya'll proposing that this helps us land J. Smith? Would there be a buyout and we sign him to the spot we freed up with the Cassell deal? What kind of trade do you think OKC would realistically do?

Scals and Giddens plus cash/pick for Smith?
Scals, Giddens, Baby or Pruitt for Smith?

Is he much more productive/much more of a true center than Powe?
He's a power forward, 2inches taller than Powe. Powe has 10 or 15 pounds on him. Powe's averaging like 6.5 points, a little over 4 rebs per game this year. Smith gets 6.5 points, 4.5 rebs too. Sounds like we would necessarily have to give up too much for a player who would be redundant on this team. Sure, he might bring a veteran presence, but doesn't Scals do that already?

I don't get it.

The thinking is he will ask for a buyout if he isn't traded by tomorrow, because he is an older player and wants a shot at winning a title .

We may be able to swing a deal for him , If we were to trade for him it would likely be:

Bos sends: Scal, BBD and 1 more prospect or draft pick

Okla sends: Joe Smith

Both Powe and BBD are free agenst at the end of the year , it is not likely that both are signed to long term deals at the end of the season so why not trade BBD and get something .
Joe Smith would take BBD role this year on offense with his outside shooting( Smith is a much better shooter). He also gives the Celtics length on defense to go up against Dwight Howard, Big Z and Gasol among others.

Don't you think the Thunder would rather work out a substantially discounted buyout with Smith rather than have to pay Scal next year?

By taking Scal and a #1 pick, they would be essentially paying $4 million to get a pick at the end of the first round, which is often the worst place in the draft due to guaranteed contracts for players who are practically 2nd rounders.

oh yea I definitely think a buyout is way more likey, but if we could find a 3rd team to deal with that would take scal it could work.

Who would give up the Gargantuan Infant for JOE SMITH!!! JOE SMITH!! He has gotta be the worst bust for a number one pick next to MJ's mistress Kwame Brown.  Joe Smith dogs it so much they should call Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson the Big WorkHorse.  The Celtics would be Joe Smith's 6th team in 3 years.  Joe Smith: 6.6 ppg and 4.6 rpg.  Leon Powe: 6.4 ppg and 4.2 rpg [with a monthlong DNP extravaganza].  Why get rid of Big Baby to get something we already have.  People quickly forgot last summer's performance from Leon.  What the Celtics really need is a seven footer who can alter shots and play 18 minutes.

Yea I would agree if there was a 7ft shot blocker out there we could get then go after him , but that doesn't appear likely. At least Smith would give us some length on our bench. We will not win another championship with Powe and BBD going against Howard, Gasol, Big Z

Chris Sheridan: A source who has been in the know for years tells me that Joe Smith is keeping his fingers crossed that the Thunder do not find another trade for him now that he's back in Oklahoma City. Smith, the source said, would like to do a buyout and then sign with the Boston Celtics as this season's version of P.J. Brown.

N0 needs cap relief. Posey AND a 1st rounder for Scal and Tony Allen :o

I'd rather give them Giddens and keep the 1st round pick . We already have Walker as a young wing man with potential

Wing man?
you Know SG/SF
That's a wing.

A wing man is the guy you bring along to talk to the friend of the hottie you want to pick up.

Joe Smith is a free agent after this year. I checked a few different sites. A SG/SF is refered to as a Wingman... Ive never heard anyone say "He's a 6'6'' wing" when describing a player. words are capable of having different meanings.

So . . . if I understand this right, Joe Smith will be single and good to have around when your intended paramour has a tall friend?   ???

Their coach is a former Laker and hates the Celtics until today. He couldbe a reason why we won't get Smith. He'd be the last person to help us, and would very probably try to prevent this from happening. I realize though that it is not he who decides.

what the heck?   Chandler's injury must be pretty serious if the Thunder decided sending two bums for him wasn't enough.  Wow.

Lame.   I've been enjoying watching the Thunder lately.  I liked the idea of them adding Chandler.

As someone who just slammed Joe Smith, I would be ecstatic to get him for minimum wage.  I wouldn't give up any valuable piece for him like BBD, but getting him for half a million bucks would be incredible.

From what I hear now, Hornets ownership is pretty freakin broke by NBA standards... Now wouldn't it just be ironic if Seattle's former team helps force the current owners to sell to the city of Seattle or something?

That'd make me giggle a bit, gotta admit.
