Haha, this guy is a Lakers fan?  A Lakers fan is complaining about another team's players being SMUG??  A Lakers fan?  You mean the Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom, Phil Jackson Lakers??  Those Lakers??

Oh man, this thread better get locked now, cuz it's not gonna go anywhere.

Kobe Bryant I'll give you that one.  But this Lakers team are the hard working team Celtics were last year while Celtics are so self-absorbed it is now a weakness.  This is my perception, i could be wrong.

I'll take the fact that we're a much better defensive team and much better rebounding team than the "hard working" Lakers. Still got Pau, Sasha and Lamar on that tough, focused squad?

  Thought so.

KG, Pierce, Allen and FRICKIN RONDO have this face they put on.  So smug is all I can describe it as.

Is there a more smug person in the NBA?

Yup

He's the best player on the planet, better than Jordan ever was, and he's got the clippings to prove it!

I'd say the lakers act  the same or worse  across the board and they lost last year, the celtics backed it up walked the walk all the way

To be fair, we've been quite laid back and occasionally quite smug this year.

He's right.

But he's wrong if he thinks the Lakers and Cavs aren't smug. At least we have something to be smug about. They're smug for doing nothing.

KG, Pierce, Allen and FRICKIN RONDO have this face they put on.  So smug is all I can describe it as.  They act like they deserve every call.

The Celtics grab, push, and hold on screens more than any team I have ever seen since the 80's.  And RARELY get called for it.  They elbow kidneys, do every low blow cheap move in the book.  This can be effective, but getting away with it sucks when other teams suffer foul calls for it.

I dont completely disagree with your premise, that the C's lean a little to heavily on their "we are the champs nothing is going to phase us until someone knocks us out of the playoffs" attitude. It concerns me a little for them, doesnt really bother me.

BUT - you honestly watched the C's vs Lakers in Boston last week and thought that only the Celtics "thought" they should get every call. Are you kidding? Pau got three times the star treatment KG got, every bump he took after he initiated contact in the post was called, and when he didnt get a call he made more smug looks/arm flails at the refs then any of the C's starters. And they fouled out KG on a horrible call where 1) Pau smack directly across his arms to knock the ball loose and 2) D fish flopped.

No player in the league holds more then Kobe does when he "locks in" on defense. He shouldered pp in the head and knocked his stupid headband off on the play that lead to a 3 on 1 break and Gasols fts.

What did D fish do to Ray coming off of Davis screen on the final play? that was a hold followed by a push that was not called, b/c he didnt hit him on the shot (which I agree he definiely did not) and on that same play what Kobe did to PP during the inbound play was about as illegal as it gets.

If you watched that game and thought the C's got away with more then the lakers, you are letting your fan status effect your view. It didnt directly cost us the game, we cost us the game when we had the lead and the ball in OT and didnt execute. But we sure would have liked to have our Defensive anchor in the game for the final 9 minutes?

Do you truly believe that the Celtics are more smug and allowed to get away with things more then all of the other teams?

If you're trying to get nominated for that Valentine's thread, this is NOT the way to go about it.  ;)

I'll say this.  The Celtics are not bugging me.  I respect and admire the level of intensity they play with.  The teamwork and unity they show, and just there overall skill on the basketball court is a thing of beauty and I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

now that's funny!
Call me a sap, but I love my kids more than anything!

The lakers flop atleast 5 times a game, more than any other team in the league, flopping is the same as grabing and pushing.

seriously who flops more than the lakers, and they get the call their way everytime ? DFish, Sasha, Kobe, Gasol.  I'd rather be a tough physical team than a bunch of floppers.  The lakers brought soft euro bball to the NBA.

You know what.  The Celtics are smug, and so are the Lakers.  I think it's great that fans of both teams can't stand the other guys faces...Seriously.

I hated it when the Yankees started winning World Series with all of their likable Jeters and Bernie Williams types.  It made itreally difficult to truly hate them.  It's much better with some A-Rods and Clemenses to kick around.

Lakers fans should hate the Celts.  The mere sight of green should make them ill.  Why even defend against this?

Yup

I think in order to defend a title a team needs to be a little "smug" as you put it.

Rondo is one of the smallest guys in the league, he is also very tough.  He plays hard every night, taking it to the basket hard.  He gets knocked on his butt multiple times a game.  He needs that "look", a little swagger.  He needs to stand up to guys like Kobe to show that he is a leader on this team and won't back down to anyone.

If people don't like KG shooting after the whistle at the other end then do what he does and block the shots.  He's not getting in the way of anyone who wants to do that.

Setting moving screens isn't being smug.  It's a fault they have and they get called for it more than you think.

Kobe, Odom, and Phil Jackson are as smug as it gets in the NBA.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."
