Amazon has a crazy good deal on the Blu Ray set for Seasons 1-4 today.  I can basically buy it, and sell back the pieces for at least what I paid for it!

Spoiler Alert:

I'm still trying to figure out why no one seemed to question where Dexter was when his wife was killed last season? After all he was spending all that time tracking down Lithgow and taking care of him. Where did he say he was? After all as Quinn said 90% of the time it's the husband and he had no aliby.
This season was weak also. It seems they don't care about tying up lose ends and have gotten really lazy.
That being said, I still like it better than most of the crap on TV and will watch next season. I just have to lower my standards.

He had a police alibi, he was doing something for the police while his wife was killed.

It might be that since they're operating under the assumption that the trinity killer is still alive, they're assuming trinity killed rita while dexter was at the crimescene of trinity's house.

as much as i love this show, does anyone else see it only lasting another season or two??

the common theme of every season is to tease Dexter getting caught.  You can only find so many ways to do it before the show really starts to lose it luster.  Also, not to mention how many cases are the Miami Metro Homicide going to have their prime suspect turn up dead or just flat out disappear before people really start scratching their heads, I mean do these guys ever solve murders??  Or do they just give up once they cant find their prime suspect anymore?  We've had an Assistant DA disappear out of thin air, a serial killer responsible for killing an FBI agent and the wife of a police investigator that they apparently just decided to stop hunting, and now a crew of men that were raping and killing several women.....and theyre presuming theyre dead or missing and leaving it at that.

Theres only so much more of this that can go on before this starts to get too outrageous.

I don't recall that he was doing police work when she was killed, I thought he was busy killing the Trinity killer.
ZAnyway, might point is they are just getting lazy and assuming that no one cares about reality ay all.

yeh, I just caught up to the current season's end and have the same concerns.  They really seem to care less and less about the loose ends.  Like Quinn's DNA came up negative, but he failed to explain a whole bunch of other issues, and yet they're all buddy chums again?  And what about the dead cop?

Anyhow, I still find it entertaining, so I hope they keep it up, despite the implausibility factor going through the roof.

Also glad they didn't yield to the temptation of making Dexter and Lumin some sort of super killer duo for future seasons.
Yup

Just watched the 5 seasons over the past month. And I agree with the consensus here, phenomenal show that has gotten a bit stale recently.

Spoilers below, so if you are not caught up, skip it.

The worst part of season 5, for me, was that the Rita murder went nowhere. Other than the first episode, it didn't change anything. I really liked the interactions with Astor, because they made it feel like there was some continuity there, but those were almost irrelevant. I know we are supposed to believe that Rita's murder is what led Dexter to help Lumen, but Dexter was already willing to have a partner before with Prado. So pretty much the biggest, saddest, most shocking finale for a season in recent memory in the end served only as a reset. Like the writers didn't know what to do with the Dexter family man story anymore and so just found a way to erase everything. Because that is what they did. Astor and Cody conveniently go away. Dexter somehow manages to hire a babysitter willing to work 100% of the time.

And so we are back to the old formula. Big bad guy that we know will die in the last episode. Yet another person who sees Dexter for who he is but can't make it work in the end (and how are we to care if Lumen dies or not after seeing Rita die?). Deb being a supercop solving every case but being absolutely blind to who Dexter is. Rinse and repeat.

This whole thing is made more disappointing by the recent interviews from the head producer. She basically said that Deb will only find out about Dexter during the "end game" of the series. In other words, they will have filler after filler until the show stops being popular and they wrap it up with Deb finding out.

I think the contrast between Dexter and Breaking Bad is interesting. Not to give anything from Breaking bad away, but on breaking bad the writers are not afraid to make the main character really unlikable, they are not afraid of killing off the big bad guys in the middle of the season, they are not afraid of moving the plot forward. On Dexter, they found a formula and are deathly afraid of moving forward. Any advances in the story will eventually be negated by a big event that only serves to reset the clock.

I really wish Dexter's writers were bolder. There is no reason why the story can't continue after Deb finds out, after Dexter is discovered by everyone, etc. They could continue the show with Dexter on the run, killing people in a city and then moving on. They could continue the show with Deb knowing, just like she knows in the novels. There is no reason why they can't have Dexter's character evolve. For example, after losing both Rita and Lumen, he could go nuts, giving up the code and becoming a straight up bad guy, with Deb chasing him. The opportunities to take this show somewhere new are literally endless, and yet we will start season 6 as if seasons 5 and 4 never existed.

That is cool. I expected him to take over all the 'cool but potent older guy' roles after Battlestar Galactica that David Carradine left uncast, but it never came to fruition. I hope he's got a big role, especially as a cop.

From what we've heard so far he will have an important role but not as a cop, as "an enlightened religious studies professor" : http://screenrant.com/edward-james-olmos-dexter-season-6-mcrid-117148/

Hey, I know I watched every episode BUT (it's been a while I can't remember), WHAT happened to Lumen? She died or something? Why can't I remember? I remember Rita getting murdered as if I saw the episode today. This is weird LOL
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

She moved back home after she killed the bad guy.   Or metaphorically she no longer had her dark passenger.
