I am convinced that the level and consistency of Rondo's play will determine if we repeat.  Can anyone compare Rondo's stats when we win by 10 or more versus when we win by 10 or less.  It just seems like that when Rondo is on...then we win comfortably.  Does anyone have access to stats like that?  Or, is there a better measuring stick?

Rondo - The Difference Maker

That's all you needed to say really, because I truly believe that when he's aggressive on both ends we are unbeatable.

in analyzing this list i'd say that rondo's stats aren't comparable between wins and 10+ wins, i'd say that there comparable in wins/losses. although i'm sure that if you broke this down into quarters it'd really reveal how big of a diference maker he is.

it would appear that rondo's stats adjust to his defender, you can easily tell just by looking at the statline the type of pg that was guarding him (whether he could just get right by him or not) as in the pistons games, warriors game, raptors game, or knicks game. but you'll see that he's almost always in double figures in either assists or points. there are only two occations where he wasn't close, against the raptors and the bucks.

and one of the most important stats that i've noticed is turnovers. Rondo averages 2.4 turnovers in games won by a margin of 10+. but in close games rondo's average dropts down to 1.87.

TP for the stats. What they say to me is that we're better when he's taking chances -- he's got more steals (and turnovers, both signs of aggressiveness) when we win by 10 or more.

When everyone was decrying how we were going to replace Posey...maybe we don't have replace him exactly. Rondo's emergence might make up for the loss on its own. The team is extraordinarily well-built.
Formerly scotthp49 at the old site. Didn't have much to say last year, but I missed you guys too much.

good call, TP for you as well.

i'd like to stress that although his points and assists aren't consistantly high, its consistant that he's either going to give us double digits in points OR assists. and judging from his performance last night against orlando (which i attended  :)) he might be moving forward on his way towards consistant double doubles. i may be jumping the gun considering its only his first of the season, but i can defenitly see the skills developing very nicely.

It was really cool during the offseason to argue that Posey couldn't be replaced "by platoon." I never believed the naysayers myself. Danny's "by platoon" plan always made sense to me - I didn't know if it would actually work, but it made sense. Now we see that Tony Allen is stepping in and doing some things, Leon Powe has emerged and is doing some things, and Rondo has stepped up and is doing things. At least these three guys have adapted and progressed to fill a good chunk of the void left by Posey. One thing, however, that has yet to be replaced is Posey's clutch 3pt. shooting.

i that that when its all said and done, house will be that guy. along with the fact that ray is now much healthier and is playing at a higher level. i think we're a better team than last year, and i think that its pretty evident as well.

Posey is shooting 41-96 from 3's this year (42.7%) which is approximately what he was hitting at this time last year. House is shooting the three at a much lower level so far, although is really starting to get on a roll. I am not concerned about losing Posey's three point shooting. We are fine there. I am concerned about his stingy defense. TA can do it on 2's, but not bigger guys at the 3 spot like Rashard Lewis last night. I still think we are pretty much replacing him by committee. I don't know that we are a better team than last year, but if the second unit can get more consistent like the second half of last night's game then we can be every bet as good.

our bench is replacing posey by commitee with TA, Powe, House, even Scal playing 3 and 4. but what makes us a better team than last year is that this is our second year together with almost the exact same team, Ray allen is playing like "hall of famer ray allen", pierce came into camp at his rookie weight and has shown that he can click on and take over any 4th quarter, KG is still KG, Rondo is continuing to grow just like we thought he would, and PERK hasn't taken steps ahead he's leapt ahead by blocking shots and becoming more of an offensive threat. the record might now show it, but come playoff time we'll be a much better team.

I didn't want to start a new thread so I'll put these in here:

vs. Golden State

vs. Orlando

It's great to see our best player, KG, showing support to Rondo. Yes, Rondo's play causes him to be a difference maker, but I can only attribute this to KG's support to the little guy. It's great to see.

Three things:

1. I agree, Rondo is one of the big difference makers on this team
2. Anyone notice he's got a black finger band on his left hand like KG has on his right

3. Matt Barnes would have been a cheap and very good replacmetn for Posey. Would have rather of spent the money there than on POB.

there was a great image from the playoffs last year, rondo inbounds to KG, then instead of passing it back to rondo he puts it in his hands, then leans over and kisses rondo on the head. i thought it was perfect.

Let's see how Gary Payton tries to downplay this one :D

This game has me rethinking how good I think Rondo can be.
