To me, it depends on what KG says about him.   No doubt that he could be a very talented option off our bench using Eddie House more as a 2 guard than a PG.

Although I don't believe NY will outright waive him, the strong opposition voiced here is probably the most compelling reason to believe signing Steph would end up being a good move given the track record in these situations.

Is there any kind of surgery that will make him 8-10 inches taller, teach him to play post, and keep his mouth shut?

Darius Miles, J.R.Giddens, Patrick O'Bryant, Bill Walker, Tony Allen. Now Stephon Marburying?
Too many question marks on this team.

We might as well sign Amy Winehouse.

Are you implying that Marbury
smokes crack?
Hmm, well... You may have a point.

I would sign Marbury in a heartbeat for the minimum! How many of you same Celtic fans didnt want to touch K.G. because most of you Tommy Heinsohn included thought he was a horrible teammate & a lil crazy! Losing every game before the 3rd quarter starts would bring alot of bad teammate out in me also, because I would be constantly be telling those stiffs to get their behinds in gear and not in a nice fashion. Living in Phoenix I watched Marbury play hard every night & he was never a problem because they were winning games. Me & my friends often talked about how unselfished he played because before his arrival here, all I heard was that he was a ball-hogging shoot first P.G. But I often got angry at him for not shooting enough & delegating the ball to the others to often when he had clean open looks. Shawn Marion is alledgedly a bad teammate now if you hear it from supposed former teammates so the Suns traded him. Marion was their best Rebounder, Defender & Hustler & they traded him for a great teammate in Shaq & how is that working out! N.Y. media, Yankees, Mets, Knicks just flat out stink! And when they do, they love pointing the finger. And most times the teams star is always that fall guy regardless. Just ask A-Rod!

I don't remember that argument ever being used against acquiring KG.  I think it does a disservice to him to put him in the same breath as Starbury.

The reason people don't like Cancer-bury is because every team he's ever joined has gotten worse, and every team he's left has gotten better.  That's a pretty impressive track record of team killing.

Bring him in Danny.

I've got no shame in admitting that I would love Stephon to back-up Rajon.

I live in N.Y. and I played in the state championships against Marbury in 1995.We had Lamar Odom,Speedy Claxton and Eric Barkley. And as great as Marbury was he was nothing short of arrogant and obnoxious. We were in California for a tournament and taking an elevator with him was like taking an elevator with Elvis. He would were his shades at night with his gold chains and wouldn't even bother making eye contact with you. He thinks he's above everyone on and off the court just ask some of his family memebers. He was brought up that way. He has been a phenom since he was a kid but he has a selfishness to him vanity is his biggest downfall. This guy was supposed to be one of the best point gurads to ever play he was groomed for that and he has the skills to be that.Bottom line is he will not play behind Rondo and be happy his ego won't let him. He could sit there and act like life is great up in Westchester NY making 22million.And he's bragging about weighing only 200lbs? he lost 5 pounds weight was never an issue he's always been in good shape physiclly unfortunatly not mentaly.

The only thing that came close to that was the fear of having too many stars with strong personalities together. It was never about being a bad teammate or even about being a little crazy.

sign him for the minimum and sign sam to a coach's contract - then if marbury doesn't work out you can bring in sam.  as coach, sam can practice with the team, be available for 10 day contracts in the event of an injury, etc...

Marbury has more upside than any of the other back-up pg candidates

move house to back-up 2 - if things work out with miles, giddens and walker it may free up players for a trade at the half-way point.

sure there are lots of question marks on the team but you always go for the best talent available.  A team that is way over the cap like we are has to be built on question marks.  I trust Danny to evaluate those question marks and use his judgement.

Though I do think the numbers on their jerseys should also have question marks next to the numbers until they prove otherwise.

He is a stat hanger.  Plain and simple.  Teams get better when he leaves.  Teams go down when he joins.

As for those who did not want KG, it was because some loved the potential of Al Jefferson and KG's age.  Not because he was seen as a selfish player.  (has anyone ever called him selfish?  I thought the knock on him was that he was to unselfish.

And does anyone really believe he would be happy with a reserve spot?

If I have to have him or Sam, I'll take Sam. That's how badly I don't want Marbury anywhere near a Celtics uniform...

Well put about Starbury, wide load.  He can get numbers on a bad team.  When he tries to fit into a team concept like he has done for the knicks the past couple years, people think he's playing worse than when he was an allstar.  Thats not the case.  That him- average at best.  Don't you think House could average 20 and 7 if he got to dominate the ball like Marbury used to?  Of course he could, but it wouldn't benefit the team.
Plus, Marbury is saying he refuses to come off the bench in NY but he would do it on the C's?  What the hell is that?  Who does he think he is?  Obviously he still has an enormous ego and sense of entitlement.  He's still a nut, and thats not going to change.

I'd like to see Starbury come - if just to watch the bloggers who hated on him go down in flames. He is a very talented player and could absolutely help us if he (as he claims) is willing to set aside some ego and play backup for Rondo. I have seen several NY Knicks games in person - and the guy is really a good player when he wants to be. Not just good as in 'scorer" but he can really make some nifty passes.

I feel the "loser" vibe is often attached to players who play on bad or dysfunctional teams - usually entirely undeserving. Is Stephon really a guy who brings teams down or a talented player on mismatched or poor teams? I'd put my money on option 1. Much of this hate was directed PP's way before he got some help. Joining the C's would put an end to this question.. It's a bit of a risky proposition but I think the big 3 can absorb any "bad" apple and not be corrupted. The collective leadership (alpha dog status) that comes out of our big 3 is off the scale. I don't think Ron Artest, Darius Miles, and Stephon Marbury could sink that.. They would just get benched.

It's hard to be a "cancer" if the team doesn't really NEED you. You can't act out and influence games - and that's really what pro teams care about. If Starbury screws up we can bench or release him. There is no pressure for us. We can win with House backing up Rondo. I think PP has already floated the idea about Marbury coming here - claiming he needs more of a vet team. If KG is okay with it I imagine an offer will be put out there.

He is way to talented to pass up on a solid team like ours. It's a bit like the Pats grabbing Randy Moss. And much like Moss I think Stephon needs help from his teamates to really shine. Poor Moss - stuck with the worst NFL QB throwing to him. We could sign Rex Grossman and that would be an upgrade I kid you not..

For the vet. min. i could start thinking about. If he even thinks of creating problems then cutting him won`t be a problem. But the "too many gambles in this team" argument is a valid one.

I wouldn`t count this a positive argument for marbury. He is payed to play every night at his 100% and not when we feels like it. I wouldn`t want such a player even if he was the nicest guy on earth.
