4. Kayne West - College Dropout
5. Big L - The Big Picture
6. Masta Killa - No Said Date
7. GangStarr - Hard To Earn

Dr. Dre - Chronic
Dr. Dre - 2001
Kanye West - Late Registration
Kanye West - Graduation
B.I.G. - Ready to Die
Jay z - Reasonable Doubt
Jay z - Blueprint
Nas - Illmatic
Eminem - Marshall Mathers LP
Eminem - Slim Shady LP

Anyone else think Chronic 2001 was the better album than Chronic?

I agree completely. 2001 may have the best production ever. The beats on that album are just ridiculous. It is not the best lyrical album but in my opinion it has the best beats.

Nice. Glad to see someone here that likes Big L. It's a shame he only made 2 albums.

This is a great list.   But how in the world could you put The Blueprint (which is a great album IMO) over Reasonable Doubt.

The Blueprint has the better production overall and that's not a knock on Reasonable Doubt as that album is in my top 20 for sure along with Dr Dre's The Chronic & Chronic 2001, Ready To Die, and I can't forget Ghostface Ironman.

So I'm not as much into the genre as I used to be but 3 albums never get old to me:

1) The Roots - Things Fall Apart
2) Outkast - ATLiens
3) A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders
4) The Pharcyde - Labcabincalifornia

The only thing I can really get into today is Lupe Fiasco.

You got 4 albums listed.  :P

But I agree on Lupe. Lupe is slowly becoming my favorite rapper of all time. Like Jay-Z said, he is a breath of fresh air.

Anyone listen to CRS (Kanye, Lupe, and Pharrell)? I've heard two of their songs, Us Placers and N.E.R.D's Everybody Nose remixxed and it's pretty awesome.

Here are my favorites, with links to back it up. I also have to mention GZA Liquid Swords, but I didn't want to take up any more space with links, as well as 36 Chambers and Cuban Linx. Besides, if you haven't heard those albums, do you even like hip hop?

Same goes for A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul, two of the dopest ever.

One Be Lo- S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M.

The most slept on album of the last 10 years. This is an instant classic, no question.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mw_75MKtQo

Nas- Illmatic

I can't think of a more complete hip hop album. Early 90's NY style, nothing better. This is my favorite hip hop album, ever.

Blackalicious- Blazing Arrow

One of the most gifted rappers alive. Nobody is making music like this anymore.

Kool G Rap- 4,5,6

This is the dirtiest MC to ever touch a mic, ever. I dare you to listen to this song and dispute that.

Look up "Executioner Style" on youtube, I took the link down so I didn't violate any forum rules. Just look it up and heads up on the language.

Pete Rock and CL Smooth- Mecca and The Soul Brother

Click the link below and say no more.

edit:
The Roots- Illadelph Halflife

How'd I forgot this one? This is loved by some, slept on by most, but one of the most solid COMPLETE albums ever.

  • But I promise my heart will never leave Boston And
no one can truly answer best. it is more correct to ask favorites. everyone has a different perspective and are unarguablly correct within their own lives. that said, my top 5 hiphop albums:

1. cunnilynguists - last two albums (a piece of strange and dirty acres)
2. fugees - the score
3. common - be
4. kanye west - college dropout (but he has gems on all his discs)
5. nas - god's son

bonus:
k-os - atlantis: hymns for disco
zion i - true and livin

and two awesome ones from this year
kanser - future retro legacy
little brother - getback

and, tho its not purely hiphop, i hope to god you have all heard
girl talk - feed the animals
http://www.mylyricarchive.com/kreators_lyrics/home_lyrics.html

Mad Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.z think they flossin' in rap
But no one knew Boston could rap
Till Edo put this Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. on the map
Now the change is drastic, Hip-Hop got Jurassic
And none of you Boston Edited for profanity.  Please do not do it again.s made a classic

Yup. The whole album was great. Food & Liquor was really good, too.
