Not that this isn't expected but Giddens finally signed.  Apparently it's a 2 year deal with two more option years.

That's a rookie contract.  All 1st round contracts are like that.

JR Giddens is one of my favorite players even though he has had some character related issues. I think that he will develop the proper mindset and be able to prosper learning from two great wing players in Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. Eventually I think he can be a great second, or maybe first option for this team offensively due to his shooting touch and athleticism. And he should be a good to great defensive stopper due to his length. But he will make his living these next two years by knocking down open shots, playing good defense, and grabbing rebounds. That was his most impressive stat last season, averaging over 8 boards a game as a 6'5" guard. That shows he has a great nose for the ball and hopefully that translates to this level
Now lets just sign Billy Walker and get the next season rolling

Definitely good news during a time when there's essentially no C's news.  I hope the kid can do about as well as Glen Davis did in his rookie year. Anything above that is gravy. It would be great if he can play the small forward spot in situations where Tony Allen is not quite long enough.  Second coming of Reggie Lewis?  Getting ahead of myself I know...

another good draft pick by ainge. giddens has real nba talent. if if if if he has finally decided to mend his ways, then the celtics got a steal.

he did not have the character issues, where do you think giddens would have gone in this year's draft? top 20? top 15?
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I'd love to think so, but that's not the way Doc operates.  Giddens will have to prove himself first.  He hasn't play one minute of NBA ball yet.  Knowing Doc, he would sooner put Scal or TAllen in there first as backup SF.

I'll settle for good enough to get consistent minutes.

I'm a huge Lobos fans so I know Giddens has game. Besides his poor free throw shooting and past issues he has all around game. He was a little soft defensively at the preimeter but the mount west conference wasn't that physical anyways.

If JR was soft against MWC competition why did the Celtics take him? The NBA is a physical game and he will get abused if he is in fact soft... But from what I've heard he was actually a good defender maybe a notch or two below Rondo.

And with that said, we better sign Bill Walker. He's a better player right now, I think and most certainly a better prospect if he stays healthy.

A good shooter with poor FT and despite his arms he was soft defensively? Sounds like he hasn't been working very hard.

Hopefully he works his but of to get minutes for the years we have him.

honestly, thank god for character issues. if it wasn't for people dropping in the draft because of this we wouldn't have gotten either of these guys.

1 down, 1 to go for our needed rookie signings. The Celts had enough faith in them to draft them, now just sign them so we can see where there are holes to fill. No matter how good these 2 are though, we still need a true SF and big man C
Can't stop, Rondo!
