I wouldn't say this interview is hilarious at all.  That punk kid interviewer is an **** and if that's what they teach in journalism school, no wonder many athletes want nothing to do with so-called reporters.  I take it back - this kid has nothing to do with journalism or reporting.  He's just an **** with a mike.

That kid is just a pathetic loser who probably doesn't get enough attention at home.  Sam treated him with much more class and respect than he deserved.

Sam's lack of validation he gives the kid is what's hilarious about it - clearly the kid is underprepared, citing wikipedia as his source for info, the way Sam handles it is awesome - then essentially challenging the kid to make a fool of himself at the end - if thats not pure comedy, with sam playing the straight man, I don't know what is

That interview was many months ago.

There's nothing "hilarious" about it at all.

Cassell is a humble guy. A lot of NBA players would disrespect the reporter or just simply walk away. Cassell = class act.

Seems that the young man was attempting 'Borat' journalism by attempting to keep a straight face while asking questions designed to get under the skin of the interviewee to cause a foolish response. This type of interview invariably leaves someone (either interviewer or interviewee, or both) looking foolish.

In the Borat movie there were scenes that made me cringe because he was trying to make an ass out of people who were just being kind -- these scenes tended to not make me laugh although his comic ability sometimes made chuckle despite myself.  Of course, when he came upon people who showed themselves to be jerks, his ability to make them look foolish was satisfying both comedically and in the vicaroius joy of watching an ass successfully made a fool of.

When this is done to unsuspecting nice people and without any comic ability, it fails on all counts and just makes the interviewer look foolish.  This clip is case in point.  Clip just made me uncomfortable.

I myself found a hidden ironic humor to this clip. Sam Cassell is known to be one of the loudest players on the court(not in terms of audibility but how much he actually talks) No matter how far away from his prime he gets, he still gets out there and talks trash. For him to sit there and be humble when a guy is clearing trying to **** him off and make a fool out of Sam, that is ironically funny. I was expecting Sam to stand up and either post up the guy and shoot on him, or start trash-talking him till he cried. Neither happened, but I still found some humor. But in the parts about calling him "alien" and stuff did make me feel uncomfortable. I do see the resemblance and have joked about before, but I would never put someone down like that to them and attempt to embarrass them. That'd be like going up to Big Baby Davis and calling him fat for something. It's rude. Not Funny. His classiness is what made the irony funny.

It's talentless peon humor for Springer fans, the only thing that made me laugh is that Sam knows he is so above that moron that he didn't take the time to acknowledge him in a way that would have truly brought him something real, the interview was a complete failure for the amount of time and preparation he put into it and Sam absolutely punked him, softly.

Hey, leave Jerry Springer out of this, he's my hero.

Anyway, that kid was an idiot.

Didn't even almost chuckle once.
