Maybe this is a little out there, but I don't see why the Celtics don't give Justin Reed another try.  We're looking for an athletic, defensive 3, and that's what Reed is.   Obviously, he wouldn't really provide anything for us on the  offensive side of the ball.. but defensively, he'd add a lot, as we all know.

Danny could give him a one year, non-guaranteed deal, like Kandi Man.  If it works out, he could play the role of 5-10 mpg, just coming in and giving Pierce a break defensively.

Thoughts?

i still think there are probably better options out there. probably not money wise, but just better players.

Not a bad idea.  He'd also be vet min all the way.  I'd like to see some other vet min names. I cringe at the thought of Air Scalabrine guarding LeBron, Tayshaun, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like him invited to camp on a non-guaranteed contract, but thats about it.  Roster spots are too valuable to them right now, that they are not going to give them away with a guaranteed contract unless it is someone they are positive can come in and be part of the rotation.

Pass. He was pretty unimpressive in Minnesota.

While were at it bring back Kedrick Brown, Joe Forte and Jerome Moiso.

I'm sure they have some free time on their hands.

I saw him play a little bit in a D-League game last year, and he clearly looked to be the most NBA-ready of the guys on the floor (much more so than Pruit, at least in this game).  I've always been a fan, but kind of feel that going into his second season, when he was expecting to get some minutes, he started focusing more on getting his own shot and less about playing D.  His defense was outstanding in limited minutes his first season; the second season, not so much.

But, if they don't make any more moves prior to camp, I'd like to see him get an invite on a non-guaranteed basis.  I'd rather see them go after Bonzi Wells for that roster spot (or even Michael Finley).

The guy doesn't have an NBA position or an NBA-caliber skill. Why do we need him?

i liked reed as a celtic, but it is very very clear that he has few to no nba level offensive skills.

as for defense, yes he is good, but i dont think he warrents being in the celtics rotation.

indeed, i think allen is better defensively. i also think giddens' and walker's athleticism will allow them to be comparable defenders, but far better scorers/passers/shooters than reed ever dreamed of.

reed is nice, but pass.... unless the celtics can trade scal for him straight up.

I like the idea of defensive stopper by committee - Doc has shown us that he isn't afraid to go to his 12th man if the 10th and 11th aren't doing their jobs, its really one of his strengths as a coach.  We should bring in 2 to 3 low risk high reward guys, Darius Miles, Justin Reed, whoever, and if they can't do the job find someone who can

our team is near complete.  Danny isn't going after any more projects, the last roster spot will go to a battle tested veteran.

you're making an assumption about Giddens and Walker to say there's a last roster spot - there's really 3 spots open, with 2 guys who we have the rights to, but not sure we'll keep - plus I don't think Gabe Pruitt makes this team...I think when the smoke clears there will be 2 spots open for the taking for free agents

Interesting.  I get the point about Giddens and Walker, but what do you know about Pruitt that is different from what seems to be the consesus here that he made progress last year and is on our depth chart as the third PG.

I like what Reed showed us defensively during his time here but since we are so unproven at the back up wing postiions with TA still recovering from his knee problems and 2 rookies I would prefer for us to go after a veteran like Bonzi Wells.   I think Pruitt makes the team as well as Giddens and Walker so in my opinion there is only 1 roster spot open barring a trade.

This guy hasn't sniffed an NBA rotation in two seasons, and now he's going to find some role on the world champs?
