I don't see why not. I pretty sure that it was reported back then that it was a minor surgery and that he should be able to get back in the floor after a couple of weeks or something. At least that's how I remember it.

Last I read, Walker's surgery went well and he was back in the gym doing light shooting.  That was a few weeks so I imagine he's progressed further or at least suffered no setbacks (otherwise, it's likely we would have heard).  I, for one, am looking forward to hearing about his progress at training camp.  Playing with, and learning from, Ray and Paul could do wonders for his game.

It seems like in past summers there was a lot of news articles about what our young players were doing in the offseason. I dont see any of that anymore. :'(

It's true, there has been a dearth of information about the rookies and the off season, in general, except for articles about activities associated with the "big three". I don't expect we'll see much of the rookies, perhaps much less than we saw of Big Baby last year.  One must not forget that BB came to us with a very high BB IQ and plenty of PT at a very competitive collegiate level. He was also well based in fundamentals, a feature lacking in most draft picks.

Two glaring weaknesses attributed to both Giddens and Walker dealt with their inadequate mastery of basic fundamentals (ball handling, decision-making, passing etc.)  One could add their relative inexperience elevating their teammate's play.  Add to that the increased athleticism, talent and speed of the NBA game and it becomes apparent that we have two VERY "raw" recruits.

That's because we are the champions, so they don't need to talk about rookies to get the fans interested and sell tickets.

I am a huge Walker fan, and can't wait to see him play...but I am also fine with just letting the summer pass, and worrying about it in October.

Walker played with OJ mayo in HS and Beasley in college. Giddens has as much college experience as BBD. Not sure about fundementals point either. Seems that they were chosen for very specific reasons. Defense, Athleticism, Experience, and (with the exception of walkers shot) perhaps even fundamentals. In short, they were chosen because, aside from the character issues w/ Giddens and health issues with Walker (two big questions) they were the most NBA ready wings available. Otherwise, we would have CDRoberts in green (not a bad pick either; but not as NBA ready - perhaps).

Don'f forget that neither is signed so they are not being marketed in any way at this point.  I wonder what the hold up is on the signing?  I can't believe they would let either of these two go in exchange for a veteran FA?

I wasn't a Shira fan, but this sort of off-season stuff and other fluff type pieces were what she excelled at.

I'd love to read anything on the C's at any time of the year.  Wish the Globe and Herald would do some sort of updates about what the guys are up to in their off season, like how they are training, what they're working on, hell, even their personal lives.

Throw us a bone fercrissakes.

Do you really need to read stuff about the Cs 12th and 15th man in the middle of the off season?  Here you go (totally made up by me):

"These two guys couldn't work any harder, and I couldn't be more thrilled," said Celtics Director of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge yesterday about rookie draftees JR Giddens and Bill Walker. Walker, who is recovering from a minor knee injury is "Very far along," according to Ainge, who praised the rookie's determination.   "Bill really attacks his workouts, both in the gym and the weight room.  He's training with Tim Grover out in Chicago, getting ready for our training camp in late September.  We expect him to be healthy and sharp," Ainge said about the unsigned second round pick, whose rights were obtained in a draft night deal with the Washington Wizards.

Rookie first round pick Giddens, also unsigned, is working out in Las Vegas, according to Ainge.  "J.R.'s really working his butt off out there," said Ainge.  "He's really concentrating on his ball handling, shooting and conditioning, and I expect him to be in tip top shape for camp."

Ainge also praised Turkish Olympic team member Semih Erden, the last pick of the 2008 draft.  "Semih is really getting some great experience this summer with the Turkish team," said Ainge.  "The reports we're getting are very encouraging."  The young big man is expected to play next season in Europe, and isn't expected in Celtics training camp.

Ainge also reported that 1997 second round pick Ben Pepper, is thriving in Australia's professional "B" league.  The Celtics still own his NBA rights. Ainge had no news to report on Spanish big man Albert Miralles, whose rights the Cs obtained in the summer of 2005 in the Antoine Walker sign and trade deal with Miami.

Actually I think Ainge said "Who is Ben Pepper?"

Of course, a little digging indicates that he is in fact thriving, for the "Townsville Crocodiles."

That part is not made up.

Correction:

While Ben Pepper's wikipedia entry (which I am starting to think he penned himself given how freely the word "dominant" is thrown around) lists him as a member of the Crocs:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Pepper

He is nowhere to be found on their Wikipedia entry or team website...

You sir, are no Shira, but nice try.

And yes, I like to read all things Celtic when they're legit.
