Check again. Powe was significantly better than BBD last season in nearly everything he did. He's also a much better athlete. I wouldn't trade Powe for Ariza, but I would trade BBD.

I also don't get where the "BBD has a higer ceiling" comes from. Seems like it's mostly due to people not wanting to admit that Powe is simply better, so they add that to BBD's description. I don't see it. Powe is and always will be a better athlete. Powe was always viewed as an incredible talent, and was better in college. The only knock on Powe was whether he'd regain his athleticism after his knee surgeries, which he has. Coming out of high school he was considered the #2 prospect behind Lebron. Upside has always been there. BBD's ceiling is less than Powe's and his question marks linger longer.

can i ask a legitimate question: did anyone actually watch how crappy ariza played in the finals against the celtics?  this guy is a joke and some of you are pining here for him.

different isn't always better...any idea of trading powe as part of a package for ariza is about the dumbest thing i've read here.  ariza isn't nearly as good as any of the wing players the celtics already have.

i can't believe people here actually want this guy... ::)

He hadn't played much if at all coming up to the finals because he was recovering from an injury... he wasn't even supposed to play in the finals. He only played because everyone else sucked. If he had been healthy coming up to the finals, and actually played in an handful of games he would've been much better.

Plus even recovering from an injury that takes away his best characteristic (his athletism), he still shot 55% from the floor during the finals. Not that crappy in my opinion for what he playing through.

he was called out by phil jackson for his inferior play...he's a downgrade, plain and simple.

if he's that good then why would LA dump him?

Name a Laker who didn't play like "crap" during the finals.

Ariza has been solid everywhere he's been.

Never said he was "that" good, just that he isn't crap as you say he is.

Has it been reported anywhere that LA wants to dump him? Or is this simply speculation from your side?

All we've heard as been about trade talk initiated by Danny, hard to see how anyone would come to the conclusion of "why would LA dump him". Not becuase a player is involved in trade talks it means that a player is being dumped.

I'm not going to argue the merits of BBD over Powe or vise versa as I think they bring essentially the same skill set, but its not fair to say Powe is better since he's had more time to develop.  I think most people's assertion that BBD has a higher ceiling is 1 he was a rookie and able to command some of Powe's minutes.  2) He has yet to come to camp in great shape (may happen this year) and is physical build is unique and is difficult on both sides of the ball (in shape or no) and can cause unique matchup problems that most people (Powe or anybody else) cannot on the block.  So basically I think there is an assumption we basically know what Powe can do whereas BBD seems capable of more (could be wrong but these are all guesses no?)

I wouldn't trade Davis or Powe for Ariza.  I would do a S/T with Tony Allen.

TP.

I completely agree Powe is clearly the better player.

I'm pretty sure Mitch Kupchak would rather have knee replacement than possibly make the Cs better by trading with them.

What does the Celts bench lack now with Posey gone and possibly House/Cassell/TAllen/Brown? OFFENSE!!! Even with those 5 players we were still slower on offense than most benches, causing 1 or 2 of the Big 3 having to play extra minutes. Why would we go after Ariza, whom is known for defense not offense? Ainge can't be that desperate already..next we'll hear tat he's wanting to trade for Mark Madsen...
Can't stop, Rondo!

He, however, like the Celtics has a limited mechanism to improve his team.   IMO, Ariza is not a great fit with as many SF types as they have on the roster.  A backup G like Allen might make sense.  It is a swap of two athletic underachievers.
