Quote
"I was very surprised they called. They just came off a championship," said Maggette in a phone interview.

"It's a great honor to even hear from them," Maggette said. "Hopefully, I can look at some of the options. That's a good option playing for those guys."

Maggette opted out of the final year of his contract that would have paid $7 million next season. While an NBA source said Maggette's management has asked the Clippers for a contract starting at $11 million next season, he said he could be willing to take a pay cut for Boston.

Maggette said. "I've been in the league a long time and I've made a lot of money. I'm tired of losing. I want to get back to the playoffs and win."

It's quite clear that Maggette is going to have to take a pay cut he wasn't expecting to when he opted out of his contract. I think it's going to come down between San Antonio in Boston, lets keep our fingers crossed he chooses us , especially if Posey goes elsewhere .

It's good to hear that Maggette is considering us despite the pay cut he needs to get here. I guess now is a good time for the Big 3 to pay Maggette a little visit to help him make up his mind about this  ;D If he wants to win, then Boston is definitely the place to go.

Posey is still the main priority FA signing for us. But if things don't work out between him and the team, I guess Maggette isn't a bad second choice. If Ray Allen learned to play defense on this team, I guess Maggette could also learn the same thing with us.

Wow that really is good news. Didn't think he'd be prepared to take less cash.
I guess that's what happens when you're the champs!
I personally would love to see him in green.

i really don't see this happening. going from wanting $11mil to getting in the region of $5mil is a big cut.

it is going to happen , pretty much anywhere that Maggette goes. The only teams that can offer him more are the Bobcats(who already have 70 mil committed to Wallace and Richardson on the wings for the next 3 years )  Memphis and Golden State which are not  playoff teams, Maggette said he wants to win. So the most he is going to get from a team that can win is the full MLE.

Maggette's best option now is to take a contract similar to Posey last year where he can opt out after 1 or 2 years. That way he can prove he can play on a championship level with a contender and raise his market value for future off-seasons .

maybe if we could convince him that once allen's contract will be up he'll get payed he can handle such a big paycut...or we could pay him in gold rings...imagine him on the team...we could call them "the big four"

If Philly resigns Iguodala they'll have about $12M available.  They want to give that money to Josh Smith, but if that doesn't work out, who knows?  They were spunky this season, they'll have money and their starting Shooting Guard right now is Willie Green.  If they make an offer to Maggette, who knows, right?
We're the ones we've been waiting for.

Thats true, but Philly already has Iguadala who is a very similar player to Maggette and they are in more need of low post help so signing another wing to a long term 10mil+ deal might not be the smartest move for them.

Well, Maggette was positively surprised when Danny called him, he said. I can only see good things coming, and I expect us to come to an agreement with either Posey or Maggette by July 8, when free agents can sign contracts.

although I really would dread losing POSEY...getting Maggette in return is definitely a solid alternative...

again the UBUNTU team spirit should win MAGGETTE over to the good side...away from the ME first attitude of the dark side..   :D

may the force be with us....   ;)

Well he'll likely have to take a pay cut anywhere he goes but I don't know maybe Danny can use the sales pitch where he tells Mags that he can be just another player in any town or if he helps Boston win another championship he'll get legendary status by all of Boston's media and fans.

If he wants to sign for the MLE though it would be a terrific pickup all the way.

Don't believe he will have to take a pay cut UNLESS he wants to play for a winner.

It's simple: Other than the Clippers or a sign-and-trade to another team, he will receive a pay cut.

And the 1st two options are now gone.

maggette is now 29 is it?? He has several options to explore seriously

If he truly believes we will repeat(which we will!) his best bet would be to sign a posey deal previously of a one year 5 million dollar deal and a players option for 5.5 next year.(in case he gets injured this year )

If we even get to the conference finals worst case and he plays well throughout the playoffs he could no doubt bank on a 10 million dollar deal with most other teams and sign a long term deal

right now i doubt that he would get any team to pay him 11 million per season. Maggette is good but not that good and 7 million per year is about right for a player like him

i think maybe he could get 9 million per year from a desperate team but i really doubt 10 million plus. Look at baron davis signing a 5 year 65 million deal or jamieson a 4 year 50 million year, those guys are paid in the low 10's and are considered better than maggette.

I think by end of this week maggette will let us know
