The boys have been partying pretty hard for the past week.  There doesn't seem to be an end to it in sight.  They were all in Vegas, Paul and Ray flew from there to Martha's Vineyard and went out on the island last night.    The flying back and forth to these places is enough to fatigue you, never mind all the drinking and partying that is going on after they arrive.

Is there anyway that this summer along with the longest season in the history of the NBA will result in a lackluster effort at times next year?  They aren't the youngest team in the league and I think the fatigue might show up.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

Now that this team knows it can win a championship, I think we'll see some changes. I doubt the C's will have the best record in the league next year. This will probably be because Doc will rest the big 3 as much as he can.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

worried?? come on, man! you heard paul after they won screaming "lets get banner 18!" (or at least i did)

i'm glad they're getting it out of their system now. it's really not an issue when the season doesn't start until november. to me, it's like getting home after having to work a late night...you are exhausted, but you just worked so hard that you're wired, and need to unwind by doing something you enjoy before catching some sleep. that's all these guys are doing...enjoying the moment.

but if you think paul, KG and ray are gonna become slackers now that they've won a championship, you're seriously mistaken.

I definitely don't think that they will be slackers.  They've been hard workers their whole careers so I would never question that.  I'm just wondering out loud if the partying will have an impact on the season.

All players party at the end of the season regardless of winning a banner or not.

AS long as non of them show up with beer guts, I think we'll be ok - they're professionals, they just achieved something thats taken over 30 collective years in the league to do (the big 3 that is) - its time to let their figurative hair down for a bit, enjoy the moment, then get back to work - none of them are playing for the Olympic team, none of them are in a summer league or anything, so I think they'll be ok.

My first reaction when I saw all of this mindless partying was in the words of Bear Bryant:

Act like you've done it before.

But hey this is their first championship so I should lighten up and cut them some slack.

I guess I am curious about how much partying is appropriate after an NBA championship is won.

Who do you think will have the best record then? The C's didn't just have the best record this past season, they were 7 games better than anybody else, they could have lost 6 more games than they did and still would have had the best record.  And look how important that was to them in the playoffs.

There will be some adjustments with playing time/rest for sure, but it isn't as if they tried to win 66 all at once last year, or will start out forsaking the best record right from the start next year. As with this year, they will play 1 game at a time and try to win every game they play and let the result be what it is.  They are not going to willingly surrender the best record in the name of rest if it is in sight given how important that was to them this past postseason.  They may not win 66 again, but even 60 may give them the best record.

Not worried. C's will be back and even better next year now that many of the role players are more 'seasoned' and look for Pierce to be a legit MVP candidate... let 'em party this summer, get it out of their systems, and then get ready. wanna bet KG is on the beach running in sand within a few weeks?
Now, on to 18...

I wouldn't say "all", but your point is well taken.  I'm sure what the Celts are doing now isn't that much different than they'd be doing if they'd lost the title.  They're just partying as a team, instead of partying with their friends.  Not that big a deal to me; I'm sure everyone will come to camp in shape and ready to repeat.

They're not all in Vegas.  Leon Powe is home in Oakland and was with Cal standout Devon Hardin on draft night.  Would not be surprised if he's already deep into his summer workout schedule and visiting kids programs in Oaktown.
