Not sure how ESPN does their PER rankings, but doesn't it seem odd that Posey is ranked as the 14 best swing free agent?  Obviously their evaluation process leaves out many intangibles that can't be measured.  Posey is at the top of that list IMHO.

If Posey takes a walk, I think Trevor Ariza would be a great fit on this team. The guys really lanky and could be a lock down defender under the Celts system.

Although a young guy like Ariza is not likly to take less to go to Boston.
Ariza exercised his contract option so he's returning to the Lakers next season for $3mil. Lakers should be very happy.

I judge players on how they play against the C's and in big game situations (playoffs). I have always been scared of Posey's defense and his ability to hit important 3 point shots. He is the ultimate role player. But you can't overpay for role players, because usually they have no trade value to anybody but you.

Eduardo Najera would look good in Green. So would Matt Barnes. Barnes reminds me of Eddie House in that he gives you all he's got, he will help a winning team win, yet doesn't have a true position, nor commands a lot of money / media attention. He's a classic 10th or 11th man and I think he would look great in Green. As for our backup PG situation, people what's wrong with Eddie House? Who cares that he isn't a true Steve Nash distributing type of guard. That's not what we need him to be. He was doing perfect in his role before Sam Cassell came aboard and killed ubuntu for a while. He doesn't stagnate the offense. All the other 4 players are shuffling their feet and not standing around when he's bringing up the ball like what happens with Cassell. The solution: Don't look too deep, we're a championship team. Sign House. Try to sign Posey. If not Posey, sign Barnes. And then a backup big like Thomas / PJ Brown / Diop. Then it's all up to avoiding the injury bug and making a run for #18!

Does anybody think Danny might go after Robert Swift?

ooh I forgot about that, kinda like when Pitino promised Michael Cage would play for the celtics (though he never actually did....) - but yeah its not outside the realm of possibility, big question is can he walk?

as a sidenote, swift would fill the tattoo void left by Delonte going away

I was wondering the same thing when I noticed his name in Free Agency. An interesting get if he's a minimum contract. Some upside, no real risk except use of a roster spot.

I watched him play a few years ago, before the injuries, and he was actually pretty good. He had a great rebound and block shot average per minute.

*Also, he is ony 22.

There is a temptation to stick with what worked; however if Posey leaves would change complexion of the team and would make certain other moves inevitable. Some nice options to be sure.

PG
Duhon
Mason
House (although Ainge seems to like House)
(enough w/ Cassell already)

SF
Posey
Barnes
Petrius

PF/C
Not much here may have to rely on the draft.
Kurt Thomas only works if you get rid of BB or Powe (size issue) not sure personality wise. Nesterovic is not that healthy and Swift is listed by some as 6'-9" and lacks bulk. At least Big Baby can hold position and clear out space under the basket.

Have you seen Swift lately, or are you going by old evaluations of him?  The guy seems to live in either:

1) The weight room
2) The tattoo parlor
3) His orthopedist's office

The pickings are fairly slim, which is why we should try to keep as many of our guys as possible.

We should definitely resign House.  He proved his worth all season long.  We already have Pruitt to groom as a true backup point guard.

Posey will be tougher to keep because now everyone will try to emulate the Celtics and get guys like him.  If we can't keep him we should try to get Josh Childress or Matt Barnes.  Childress has good defense and athleticism.  Barnes is also a good defender and decent shooter.

I also think Najera would fit in well.  He's fairly big, a good defender and has 3 point range.

Latrell is not around anymore, i think he had some trouble with the law as well.
I dont think that would be a good option, lets stick with james posey
