Phew, that was close, I´m covered in sweat.

They played, as we say in Germany, "Go at him, I have him for sure" (If that makes sense in english).

Fantastic game by Schweinsteiger, but I still cringe every time he shoots a corner.

With Portugal out, there´s only Turkey and the Netherlands left as teams that could be dangerous, imo...I like our chances.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

Yeah, right... ;D

Spain is always good. Since I follow Soccer(20 years), they always have one of the strongest teams at the tourneys, and they always lose in the quarter finals. I wouldn`t bet my money on them even if they`d be the only team at the tourney^^

Congrats casperian. A well deserved win for the better and more efficient team in the pitch. Good luck to the rest of the tournament.

Scolari outcoached us once again. That boy of him who makes a living in Betis' bench - there are probably 15 Portuguese goalkeepers better than him right now - offered another goal failing an interception. He played his midfield of midgets against a team like Germany leaving Meireles and Veloso out... He played the wrong frontline and changed to the one he should have started when we were already losing and it would make sense to play with a classic striker... if the tactic was to cross balls to the goal area, why didn't he play Hugo Almeida?... I'm so tired of seeing this happening... He wasted the best generation of Portuguese players and a in his prime Deco to win nothing and he only looked good for a couple of years because of Mourinho. When he had to build his own team - from 2002 to the first game of Euro 2004 and from 2007 till now - it was an absolute disaster. Good riddance. I pity Chelsea fans. /rant

Thanks, but I wasn´t on the field^^, I can see now why you have your problems with Scolari. Hugo Almeida definitly would have been an option, I know him from Bremen and really like his energy and toughness, good player. He was probably the better option. I was shocked by Ricardo`s mistakes, he was great at the last euro, I remember the penalty shootout where he won the game with bare hands.

Don´t let your head hang down, the future of the portugese national team is bright. C. Ronaldo still has to enter his prime.

Could you give some certain examples of your problems with Scolari? I think "Who" would like to hear them, too^^

Casperian that was my point exactly about Gekas and Amanatidis.

Euro gets better and better. I can`t remember another tournament with so many good games. I would never expected such a score , especialy from Germany. Portugal seemed a little arrogant. I thought that 2004 would have made them respect every opponent. They never realy tried to speed up the game. Instead of quick passing game and through balls they tried crosses. Germany forced the game style it would give the victory. TP for them :D

Before the game the issue was about Nuno Gomez but the weak link is the defence of this team. The keeper is a joke and Ferreira is ..... Well he is not a football player! He belongs in a small group of players than earn a lot of money and sign great contracts for doing absolutely nothing. (some other members are B.Zenden and Francesco Coco)

the bad thing for Portugal is that failures like this one get into the DNA and follow the team for many years regardless of the roster. Same goes for Spain. The opposite happens with Germany. All over their DNA is written WINNER.

i thought, at first, portugal showed germany a lot of respect (so did bierhoff in the post-match interview) and that made them pay a little. i thought germany were outstanding from the off, and if they needed more goals they would have gotten them.

still not convinced, ederson? :D

The better organised and more focused team wins not the most talented one.

Again i`m playing the "Greece 2004" card.
Or the "Germany 1996" also known as cross-all-you-can-till-bierhoff-scores

Once again is proven that tactics beats talent .. Easily

portugal have the second best squad in tournament behind germany, i said that at the start. netherlands and spain have looked good, but i still have my doubts and i fancy russia to pull off an upset.

  • I left Indiana. Because it was horrible.
Arrrrrrgh why can't the Croatians finish?

By the way, Hrjove, it's nice to have another Croatian on board.  While I've never been, I have family littered over the area.  The only time I watch soccer is when the Croats are on the pitch
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

And then, 30 seconds after I post, Klasnic scores for the Croats.

And then, as I'm typing this, Turkey answers.  What a game.
