Boston Celtics vs Los Angeles Lakers: 2008 NBA Finals / Predictions

OK, now we can talk some Lakers without jinxing anything!

First time in 21 years and the 11th time ever.  Celts are 8-2 vs the Lakers in the storied history of this rivalry in the Finals.  A dream matchup. 

I've picked against LA every round so far, so you know I'm not breaking suit now.  The Lakers cruised through the West.  The Celtics struggled at times in the East, but seem to have exorcised their road demons vs L.A. and put up a performance that can not help but answer some questions are their make up. 

I'll leave the matchups and what not everyone else.  I'm just convinced these Celtics will keep finding ways to win 4 games vs. any opponent.  Celts take the series in 6 and raise the long awaited banner #17.

Is it Thursday yet?

The defense that worked so well against LEbron won't be as effective because Kobe can hit the outside shot but the Celts can definiatly take Gasol and Odom out of the game/series. So let kobe get his and shut down the other 4

I can only imagine what they are going to get for a 30 second advertising slot.

As an aside I hope all here at Celticsblog realizes this will not be easy. Let's not try to crucify our players or our coaches for every minor problem. We will definitelt be losing at least 2 games in this series.

Realize that. Let it sink in. Because this will be a war and in war there are always losses.

But we will overcome and the Garden will rock like never before after a game 7 classic!

These Celtics still don't quite feel for me like they used to ..... in the 60's, in the 70's, and in the 80's ........ and maybe those magical decades are lost forever and that's a different dynasty.

these guys, though, still wear the CELTICS jersey and they still play under those banners and still play for the same franchise that Red built.

And this 2008 series is for Red - maybe he's been over there on the bench during these playoffs to keep Doc from making too big of a mess of the team.  DJ will be roaming the backcourt these Finals to keep Kobe in check.

It ocurred to me that these 2008 Celtics would do well to take a page out of the 1984 Celtics playbook and take the physical play to these Lakers who have been fast-breaking and prancing their way thru the West so far. I hope that for the Lakers Game 1 feels like they've hit a wall that they are not used to so far.

Take the physical play to the Lakers - pound them into dust on the boards and make their offense fight thru hell to get a basket.

GO CELTICS - BEAT LA !!!!!  THIS ONE"S FOR RED !!!!

The element most of the media is overlooking is defense.  While it's true that having an elite superstar like Kobe helps things a la Bird, Johnson, Jordan, Russell, Duncan, Olajuwon, etc., what really set most of those teams apart was defense.  And in that department, the Celtics are much better than than the Lakers.  While the Lakers can put up points, they also won't be able to stop the Celtics.  Given that fact, I can't help but pick the C's in 6.
