Okay, let's get a few things out of the way right at the start:
1. I have never liked Doc. I watched him suck with the Magic in the playoffs (I am in FL). But I have refrained from becoming a "Doc Basher" on here - which has basically given me little to post about in a while.
2. This is an important one... NOBODY THOUGHT THAT WINNING IT ALL THIS YEAR WAS REALISTIC WHEN WE GOT KG.
It seems like, all of a sudden, people are wanting a ring this year or that's it. Yes, we won 66 games. Yes, we dominated home & road. But this is a 1st year squad which has 9 new players since last season. Personally, I have always looked at a 3 year window.
My concern for next year is that we lose the coach that the players have most responded to and then it all falls apart. No, I am not talking about Glen Rivers. I am talking about Tom Tib. Listen, he is gonna get offered at least 2-3 head coaching jobs across the league next year and THIS is the guy that really turned things around. I keep hearing people say that "the players have really responded to Doc"..... My arse! The players say all the right things about Doc, but look at them on the bench. Look at Rondo ignore him. Look at KG shrug off almost everything he says. Then look at how they talk with Coach T.
If we lose TT, and do not make it to the finals this season, my concern is that he bolts and these guys are left with a defense that resembles what we have seen in our road games this playoffs. I am not saying to oust Doc immediately. Before the season I was in the camp of "anything less that conference finals is a failure", and I still agree with that. Losing this series to the Cavs would be a catastrophe, especially with Lebron being held in check.
The question boils down to this. IF we lost this series, after looking at the season as a whole, who would you rather lose...
Our "offensive Guru" head coach who can't break 80 on the road
or
Our "defensive Guru" asst. coach who keeps the defense solid 99% of the time and has simply changed how these players think?
Personally, if I had to choose, I would take TT every day. And, my friends, it may boil down to just that. I do not think he goes to Chi or PHX if we say, "here are the keys to the bus, now drive".
