I was reading on the realgm forum a discussion about Doncic and how he deserves the MVP this year for what he has done so far in his career  ::) :o.

It was dumb, but a poster on there made a comment about how modern fans will eventually say something like "Duncan wasn't even that good. He didn't even average 20ppg for his career."

That got me wondering about who the most winning players of all time are with the lowest counting stats.

This discussion is somewhat on a spectrum. Guys like Duncan or even Bill Russell might have lower counting stats than expected, but they won way more than anyone else. But guys like Danny Green or Derek Fischer might have had way worse counting stats and still impacted winning, but not to the extent that Duncan or Russell did.

Al Horford comes to mind as a guy in the modern NBA whose counting stats have always been meh, but he has always impacted winning. Derrick White is another one.

If you can, answer in two categories: 1) Modern players, and 2) All-time.

Love him or hate him, Draymond has to be the modern game's poster child for this, doesn't he?

If we're talking purely about nonscorers who have massive impact on the game, then Dennis Rodman and Ben Wallace are two strong names historically.  Obviously Rodman did stuff the rebound column on the stat sheet, and Wallace was also incredibly strong on blocks and steals in addition to his work on the glass.  Others would likely have better opinions than me in terms of players who would better fit these criteria in previous eras.

Agree with Atzar. Draymond is the number 1 for me.

Others that spring to mind would be Holiday, Iguodala, Manu, Steve Nash(although maybe he doesnt count because he did average like 12 assists a game).

Boris Diaw and Chandler could fit here too.

Dennis Johnson for the throwbacks.

Horry would have to be there.  Ainge?  Kerr?

DJ didn't have big numbers on the Celtics, but was unquestionably a huge part of their success.
Yup
