With trading Jaylen for a lesser playsr I think most would agree we are not a true challenge for the top teams like the Spurs etc. I know most teams are not do we are not alone .
But with this ? optionality? that Brad kept repeating ,are there any players in the future you dream of us acquiring in some way?
Or is this in reality just being an able to keep the players we already have and pay them as they improve?
Can anyone that understands the financials ( to some degree because I truthfully do not) ? I know we aren?t taking about another Supermax guy.
But with all this optionality talk I?m surprised people are not talking about the future . Are we just accepting that this may be outdated as being an also ran team? Maybe that?s the case. I know only one team can win it but we are not contending for a title obviously.

I don't think there's a current player rumored to be available that would move the needle more than JB did.  The best many of us are hoping for is a guy that is a half-step down from JB, plus another piece.  That's why you see Trey Murphy III come up.

In terms of the Dream Option, it's always Cooper Flagg for me.  Not going to happen, though.

There is two ways to dream about how good BOS can be.  In addition to dreaming about players on other teams that we may be able to get, you can also dream about how good some of our young players could become.  Hugo and Cenac are the two that have the most potential in my mind.  I see solid starter potential in both, maybe Hugo and Cenac are a future Derrick White and Al Horford level pair.

As to trades or backfilling Paul George's salary after he is gone, there are two ways to look at that.  One is to go out and get another max guy to pair with Tatum.  I don't think that is the way to go anymore, unless you can get a player like Giannis.  More likely, you backfill the +/- $60M with two players at $30M each or $40M and $20M, or something like that.

As to trades, it would have to be something like George and picks for some combination of players.  The cap restrictions would work as we would have PG's salary outgoing.  I am not sure there are going to be a lot of options to trade Paul George.  The other option is to let his contract expire and then try to sign someone to backfill.  The problem with that is we would need cap space or an exemption or something to be able to offer anyone anything more than the MLE.  I have not done the math to see how much cap space BOS will have in the 2028 off seasons, after PG's contract comes off the books, but it may not be possible to sign on someone at $60M to replace him.  It will depend on what other contracts are on the books at that time.

2029, Roy. I don?t see Dallas being competitive anytime soon. You never know..

Also, Coop does not strike me as someone who cares more about money than winning and not many players stay with the team that drafted them for their entire career. I would not be shocked if he plays for Boston at some point.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I think about it like, who could be an addition like Jrue Holiday or Porzingis were a few years ago?  Veterans who fill a big hole, whether it be leadership, post play, outside shooting, etc.

That leads me to teams that are most likely out of the playoff hunt with an older, established player.

But we may not have the tradable assets to get that kind of player right now.

I?m high on the current roster despite OPs likely on target conclusion that we aren?t at Spurs, OKC level.  And I?d go with 76ers too as far as on paper talent goes.  But lots of possibilities with this roster and with existing assets.  A whole bunch of good- very good players surrounding one great player. And a bunch of potential goods there as well.  I tend to agree with VG that the current roster may produce a pretty competitive team. And if a few of the potentials start to shine, we have some low cost assets to package with PG and picks (or keep).

Jokic is the next dream addition.

Then there's Ant-Man and Cooper Flagg.

Hey if Luka Doncic is available, he'd be another dream addition. One of the top 5 best players in the world.

I thought the whole point of trading Brown was to give us the financial versatility to build a title winner around Tatum while he is still in his prime.
If that was not it, we should have kept Brown and found a way to add talent to replace Holiday and Porzingis regardless of the expense.
If the new guy's priority is financial, he should never have become owner of the Boston Celtics.
The Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett - Tatum

The Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce - Brown
