In: Paolo Banchero, Jonathan Isaac, Noah Penda, 1st round pick

Out: Jaylen Brown

Celtics starting 5: Pritchard, White, Tatum, Banchero, Timelord(FA Signing)

Bench: Schierman, Hauser, Harper Jr, Gonzalez, Walsh, Isaac, Queta, Garza

Magic starting 5: Suggs, Bane, Brown, F. Wagner, Carter Jr

Bench: Carter, Black, Cain, DaSilva, M.Wagner, Bitadze

The Magic need more shooting and I don?t think Banchero and F. Wagner are a good pairing. Bane is going to be 28 years old, so JB fits their timeline. Jaylen would get to be the number one option.

Banchero would give the Celtics a player that can finish at the rim. He also has a good midrange game. Paolo is a bull at 6?10 250lbs. This trade would allow Tatum to move to SF. Banchero is only 23, so he still has a lot of upside. Averaged 22pts/8rebs/5ast this season. The season prior he averaged 26pts/8rebs/5ast.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

"He also has a good midrange game" - This is not true at all. He is like the worst midrange scorer in the entire NBA.

"This trade would allow Tatum to move to SF" - This is a negative not a positive

Its a creative idea I hadnt heard before, but I just hate the fit next to Tatum too much. Think Banchero is just a poor mans Tatum.

Agreed. He can do it but it is not my first choice. I'd rather keep him at PF.

-------------------

Some numbers on Banchero's midrange (from bref.com)

Long twos = 16-23 feet = 38.3%
Midrange twos = 10-16 feet = 36.2%

He took 81 long twos so about 1 per game.
He took 199 midrangers so 2.5-3.0 per game. High volume.

You want to be up over 40% on long twos to be taking volume shots from there. If you are below 40%, you should be avoiding the shot.

NBA.com has different shooting ranges. They broke it down from 10-14 feet and 15-19 feet and 20-24 feet. If you look at the two midrange ones (not long 2s) they top shot takers in that range generally hit 45-50% of his shots. This is Durant, Embiid, DeRozan, Ingram, Brunson, D Booker, Jaylen, SGA, J Murray, Kawhi, Ant-man, Luka. Giannis is one of the first names there that takes volume but fails to hit his shots. Cooper Flagg hit the shorter one but not the mid one. Cade is at 49% on the short one and 41% on the mid one.

Banchero, on the other hand, is at 35.5% and 37.4%. So well below the marks you would expect of a player who is taking volume shots from these areas.

I think F Wagner is more of a SF than a PF. He has the height to play PF but he doesn't help much on the boards. He isn't as physically aggressive defensively as Banchero is. I think that will hurt him defending bigger opponents. He does better defending guys where he has the height advantage and he can play off them.

I see both F Wagner and Jaylen as SFs rather than natural forward partners where one is a SF and one is a PF.

Then you have the next layer which is Wendell Carter at center. If you had a strong defensive center who is also a strong rebounder you could live with slightly undersized forwards but that is not W Carter. W Carter is a mediocre defender & a mediocre rebounder. He is undersized. So you do not have much interior presence as you are undersized at both PF and C.

On another note, I'd love to get Tristan da Silva out of Orlando. He'd be a great option as a backup PF/SF behind Tatum.

We lack genuine size at PF behind Tatum. I'd love to have a big forward behind him rather than relying on small forwards like Hugo or J Walsh.

I don't know what he would cost but I like his game.

I don't know if they'd be interested in Hauser. A top shooter which they need to open up their offense some more. Tristan is on a cost controlled rookie scale contract. Hauser would be more expensive but not too expensive. Hauser + late 1st for T da Silva?

Is anyone concerned about how the leadership gap gets filled with a Jaylen trade? JB is an odd leader - not sure if he?s a bit of a double-edged sword at times, but he does model work ethic and is certainly more demonstrative than JT. This season he established a leadership presence.  Losing Jrue and Al left a void in vet leadership and JB filled some of that but I question to what degree JT has that in him.  He?s a good teammate no doubt but not sure if leadership is his thing.  I bring it up because I think that?s a consideration with a Brown trade.  If he goes I think it leaves a void over and above the basketball talent he takes with him. I think Brad needs to find some strong vet presence to bolster that.  Probably whether JB stays or goes. I think with JBs latest comments next years team might be vulnerable.  I thought this years team had good chemistry - maybe because there was no doubt who?s team it was.

I don't think the Magic trade Banchero straight up for Brown
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Yeah, I wouldn't if I were them. Jaylen is too old.

At least with Giannis there is a discussion because Giannis is a genuine MVP talent. So the upgrade from Banchero to Giannis is large enough to justify it.

The upgrade from Banchero to Jaylen isn't enough. Not for the age gap. Orlando got another 10+ years of star level play from Banchero.
