IMO the smart thing to do is try and get a "3rd guy" who is younger than JB and JT, not older.

This is an opportunity for the Celtics.

Nico traded for Davis, and wasn't going to trade him on principle and ego. Now that he's gone, everything is a possibility.

The Mavs lucked into Flagg. Now they can rebuild around Flagg and his timeline. They already have Gafford and Lively as young bigs that can play next to Flagg.

It makes a lot of sense for the Mavs to start shopping Davis now and look to retool around Flagg. I think it makes sense for them to shop Irving too at some point.

The Celtics could put together a decent trade package for Davis, if he was willing to play for Boston. He's the exact type of player that would fit really well next to Brown and Tatum.

If the Celtics could keep one of Pritchard-White-Simons, along with some of their wings, they could retool more quickly than we previously thought.

I would pass on Davis, but I would consider Lively or Gafford if the Mavs decide to do something. Simons + pick(s) for either work?

Davis is one of my least favorite players in the NBA, but there is no denying his ceiling and how he makes basketball teams better.

We already had one unreliable big who struggled with injuries recently. If Davis was willing to fit into the pecking order correctly and be a DMVP player, he would have a much more significant impact than Gafford or Lively.

My main thing is, idk if Dallas would do it for just Simons + PP + picks, and I don't want to give up White or Jaylen. Plus, AD himself is nowadays very injury prone

This and I can also see AD as someone who would very much let his unhappiness with a situation affect his playing.  I don't think he'd want to come to Boston, I don't think he'd be happy and I think it would show on the court.

I think salary cap rules would essentially require this to be White+Simons for Davis.

I'm guessing White would be best going to a third team, but maybe they like White's fit?

Yep. Celtics being over the apron means they can't take back more in a trade than they send out.

But also having 3 players making 50+ million each going forward probably just isn't feasible cap wise.

Not sure I want 50+ million locked into a soon to be 33 year old who is always injured. In today's day and age I think you need to value guys who actually play higehr than ever given how the playoffs have turned into a war of attrition.

We had an injury prone Porzingis for two years, but AD looks to be slightly more available than KP riiiight 😂

All jokes aside, perhaps we should see if Gafford is on sale?

Lively is more injury prone than Davis.  I'd be all over getting AD if I could get him.

Gafford signed an extension this summer so cannot be traded until mid-January, but we should definitely reach out at that time.  Although the Mavs are hard-capped with $1.2 million of wiggle room, so matching salaries will be difficult.

The league is just so big right now. You have to have bigs if you want to compete.

3 palyers at 50m can work if you have Pritchard, Hauser, and vetmins around them. We may not even be in the 2nd apron, until we have to resign one of them.

amazed he lasted this long.  absolute dumbassery with that trade - got well under market value for a player considered top 5 in the league who's still really young and didn't even ask around to see how much more other franchises would have offered.

unless he was planning on getting a 'thank-you' job from the Lakers all along, he's got to be considered radioactive by every other front office in the league

White + Simons + picks is not enough to land Davis.  Even with his age and contract he holds more value than that.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I'm not sure I agree with you.

It seems like White's value may be something like Bridge's value, with multiple firsts and pick swaps. If the mavs got that with Simons as the core of the trade, they'd consider it.
