At the risk of coming across as a vulture following last night?s franchise altering news, I think there could be an opportunity for a legitimate reset and reload this off season and it all centers around Jaylen Brown.
Factors
Regardless of what happens in the rest of the series, I believe the following factors are true.
1. The Tatum injury should keep him out for the vast majority of next season ending any championship aspirations in 2026.
2. Getting beneath the second apron was rumored before the Tatum injury although most agreed that Tatum/Brown should be preserved. The value proposition has shifted.
3. Along with the egregious lottery fixing for Dallas last night, what has gone under the radar is that San Antonio also jumped to the number 2 spot.
4. Jaylen Brown?s value has arguably never been higher than it is right now. I?ve said for years that JB is probably the most diamond in the rough swing since OKC James Harden. No one has eve seen what a Jalen Brown led offense looks like and by playing him alone.
Proposal
It is with these factors in mind, that I think that we should trade Jaylen Brown to San Antonio for a package centered around the number two pick, Devin Vassel, and as many future assets as we can squeeze out of the Spurs, including our 2028 pick swap .
Why for Boston
Clears the deck to enable a one year reset and reload to infuse young talent into a roster that at the very least has a lot of tape on it at this point. The ultimate prize would be to be able to tank hard enough to get Brockton native AJ Dybantsa next year to pair with Harper and Tatum. There is also Cameron Boozer and Darryn Peterson as worthy swings at the top of the 2026 Draft.
Why for San Antonio
Ascend to a Western Conference playoff contender. Players of Jaylen?s caliber rarely become available on the open market. They have a top 10 player in Victor Wembanyama and a glaring need on the wing. Gregg Popovich is one of the most social justice forcused figures in the NBA today and has spoken nothing but praise for Jaylen Brown in the past. I could easily see him viewing Jaylen as the leader that this team needs to take the next step.
