That being said, hope it's Bezos (money) or somebody else who will not hesitate to spend.

If Bezos buys the Celtics, I'll likely stop following the team. Amazon is a parasitic giant who collects rent from small businesses throughout the world and most importantly controls our lives by storing our data and modifying our needs. Hope it crashes and burns or it is forced to collectivize its algorithm for the greater good of society.

I'm no fan of Amazon, but the 'ethical billionaires club' has a empty membership list.

That's typical liberal silliness.  Billionaires can be ethical like anyone else.

No one forces individuals or small businesses to use Amazon.  Personally I think Amazon provides good products/services at reasonable prices so I use them when I choose to do so.  "controls our lives by storing our data" and "modifying our needs" is just wacked out nonsense.  "collectivize its algorithm for the greater good of society" is more nonsense with socialist loons defining what the greater good of society is for everyone else.

You know, you don't have to shop there, but they're far better than Temu which is a Chinese company.  I don't like Market Basket, the families are all crooks, so guess what, I don't shop there!  Easy Peasy!

Can be? Sure, maybe.

Are they? I can't think of a single one, can you?
I'm bitter.

'Anyone else' is unlikely to be a serious buyer for the Celtics, though.

We do have to let tazz have his small moments though, since he's habitually unwilling to engage with things like facts or reality when it comes to talking politics.

You dig deep enough and you'll pretty much find out any company either directly or indirectly has some sort of ethical flaw.

They were great owners at first. Hopefully they'd at least have some awareness that if they came in and immediately broke up a title team over money they'd get absolutely destroyed.

There really aren't any such things as ethical billionaires. There are maybe some that made their money in less overtly evil ways than others, but I think the best you can hope for is that the C's aren't bought by some middle east regime that hacks up journalists or enslaves women.

Does anyone know if there are any good media pieces (articles, videos etc.) that deal with the topic of the Fenway group as owners? I ask this because I was a lifelong Red Sox fan, but haven't paid attention to baseball for the last 10 years. I understand that the ownership has become cheap lately and that they've had their bungles all along the way, yet still boast championships and success. I'm interested in what exactly happened. I bet it would make a good (unfortunate) story.

of course my speculation could be way off, but here's why i'm kind of favoring the Bezos purchase:

i've heard he's not really a sports fan and definitely not a Celtics fan. this could be very bad, but it could also mean that he would let Wyc and Pags govern, which means Brad and Mike run the front office, which means Joe dictates his coaching staff and there's plenty of money for the guys on the floor year after year.

i'm not sure the other groups (Fenway, in particular) would be as happy with a hands off approach. we're in a good spot now. the least intrusive new owner is probably best and that could be the guy who oddly doesn't care that much and can afford to not care that much.

If John Henry buys the team, expect the team to get whittled down in the coming years. Absolutely no way he's planning on playing a sizable luxury tax for years to come. And that could also contribute to one of the Jays leaving if they become disgruntled with the team around them.
