I thought Haliburton looked best against Canada which I found interesting. It was against NBA players that he was comfortable and against Euro players he was uncomfortable.

The difference was the Euro players would cut to below the foul line and muscle him off ball for interior position for an easy scoring attempt. Haliburton struggled with that. He is the weakest player physically on Team USA and has been getting bullied by Euros on switches. This has made him the biggest defensive liability on the team.

Interetingly Canada did not do this to Haliburton. Their NBA guys have the muscle to do this but this is not done much in the NBA anymore and the NBA guys failed to exploit this advantage. Instead they stayed on the perimeter and spaced the floor like they would in NBA ball. This allowed Haliburton to avoid his defensive weakness and be more active in passing lanes in team defense. It was his best defensive game of the warm-ups as a result and his best overall game.

Still, I don't trust Hali defensively against non-NBAers. He gets bullied too easily. Even Steph has more fight in him on those switches. More muscle. Lower center of gravity. Haliburton gets pushed around too easily.

I do feel for Tatum. Were I him, I'd be p---ed (and there is a report that he really is). However the most talented teams aren't always the best teams. You need consistent role players who are going to embrace their roles. To that end, Holiday and White were terrific addtions. And the last 2 guys on any team shouldn't be stars.  So maybe you have a National team of guys who are always committed to being on it - as in soccer.  And your 11th and 12 guys should probably be veteran NBA rotation guys - who aren't stars - but you know exactly what you're getting from them most nights - they can step up when needed, but won't mind possibly not playing.

I do get the sense that politics is at work here not only with the team selection, but with who's playing.  It wouldn't at all shock me if these guys get beat at some point, though having Holiday and White may go a long way towards preventing that from happening.

The announcers in the warm-up games kept claiming Coulibaly has grown since entering the NBA and now stands 6 foot 9 inches. He sure does not look 6-9. Batum looks taller than him at 6-8.

Coulibaly is a strange. Strong defense but often periperhal on offense with occassional flashes of what could be legit high end talent. Reminds me of Jaden McDaniels in Minenesota. He does the same thing. Seduces with flashes of offensive potential but has yet to turn it into consistent output. Another guy is Mikal Bridges who did fulfill those flashes and become more consistent offensively.

I like Australia's twin 6-7 / 6-8 guards in Josh Giddey and Dyson Daniels. Super versatile. Big. Hard to matchup with. Makes them super large on defense. Can suffocate the paint.

It is a pity they don't have some more size in their frontcourt to aid them defensively.

Tatum starting today. Steve Kerr just made a mess of this whole thing.

Curry/Booker/Tatum/Lebron/AD.

Not a bad lineup.  Ideally, I'd like to see Edwards in there instead of Booker but at least AD is getting the start.

I?d like to see Holiday in over Booker. Booker does zero and gets rewarded for it.

Ok, Tatum got the start. Now sit him!
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

How the F is Booker getting so much PT.  He's like the 14th best player on Team USA.  (I know there are only 12 players).  He plays zero D.

Embiid had his best game of the warm-ups against South Sudan. They have no real big guys. Only thin 6-9 guys. Nobody that could cover him inside. Got a bunch of easy hoops. Could have had more if they made more of an effort to get him the ball.

Oh, look Tatum is playing. Good job, Kerr!

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

D Booker much more involved as a ball-handler without Jrue out there.

Less standing in the corner away from the action. Uninvolved.

This new lineup is nice

G: Steph
G: Jrue
F: Ant
F: Durant
C: Bam

Lot of quickness both offensively and defensively. Lot of ball-handling. Strong shooting.

This feels like the Celtics lineup.

Same backcourt. Ant & Durant in place of Jaylen & Tatum. Bam in place of Horford.
