According to a recent report, the 49ers have the framework for a Brandon Aiyuk trade between the Patriots and Browns. The deal is dependent on Aiyuk choosing the team that offers the better compensation package.

If true and if goes to the Pats, I think it?s fair to say that the patriots have a WR group with excellent potential.  An o-line and QB away from an exciting offense to go with a solid defense 🤔

I'm not sure Aiyuk is a #1 type receiver. If we're being honest, he was the fourth option for the 49ers offense. Then again, he would certainly be a major upgrade for the Patriots.

On a separate note, why is everyone assuming the Patriots defense will be a strength? How can it not suffer after losing Belichick?

Jerod Mayo and Covington can back that department up. Mayo used to play for defense, so I think he has some type of defensive knowledge to optimize.

There's a massive difference between playing the game and being able to coach/teach players. How can Belichick be considered the greatest head coach/defensive mind of all time, if a first year coach can simply replace him and the defense not miss a beat? I'm just saying, the defense will regress.

For me the bigger concern with losing Belichick is defensive personnel, not the schemes and play calling. Mayo was already heavily involved in those parts of the game so I expect our defense this year to be about as good as last year. Over time, though, I think the defense will slip. Hopefully having Mayo as HC will stop it from slipping too far, but we'll see
I'm bitter.

I have been a huge Aiyuk fan since college. I was surprised when he struggled for a small stretch, but he has turned it around.

6'0 200 pound receiver that is at the tops of the league in yard per reception and seperation per route run? Hands like glue? Great route runner? 26 going on 27? Yeah that is something this team should covet.

No doubt he has benefitted from being on a stacked offense. We could only hope he is even better as a #1. I am sure his efficiency will slip, but it has room to.

The article says Bourne and picks for Aiyuk. Is that really worth it?  Then you have to pay him.  It depends on the picks I guess but I say let him go to CLE.

1st rounder? Not in our situation. A second? Sure. A second and a late round pick + Bourne? Maybe

I mean, Aiyuk had 1300+ yards and 7TD?s last season in San Fran. Certainly looks like a #1 WR to me. Doubt the Pats get him, though. Will believe it when I see it.

Gonna miss Bourne if this happens.

Not gonna lie though idk why Aiyuk would choose NE if the contract extensions are comparable. Cleveland is in a much better position now than NE.

I'm stating the obvious, but he'll only choose NE if they pay a premium.

Have to give credit to your Bears. They got their guy and went all in.

Yes, Aiyuk is a game changer. Brock Purdy is a little better than average, and Aiyuk was a beast last year.

Aiyuk could shine under a better QB- hopefully it doesn't take long for Maye to develop.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

I'm not sure I love the $30M receiver era, but obviously it is coming from somewhere with the value of WRs in this league.

In context, it might be worth the gamble. We have the cap space and just drafted a potential franchise QB. Having Aiyuk makes the overall WR core look drastically better (including if we have to give up Bourne).

Aiyuk/Polk/DD/Henry/Stevenson does look suddenly decent on paper.

These WRs are expensive toys. But money is money, and Maye/Polk are both on rookie deals while the rest of the roster has a lot of reasonable contracts.

More pressure would be on Maye if Aiyuk lands on New England. Needa play like a #3 pick and don't go busting. Tho some Brissett to Aiyuk connections would be intriguing lol
