Toronto Raptors continued their trading binge Wednesday, making a seven-player deal with the Boston Celtics in which they rid themselves of unhappy guard Kenny Anderson.

The Raptors also sent center Zan Tabak and forward Popeye Jones to the Celtics for guards Chauncey Billups and Dee Brown and forwards John Thomas and Roy Rogers.

Pitino gave up on Billups way too early.

and then the Raptors traded him to Denver. And then the Nuggets trade him to Orlando. And then the Magic renounced his rights and he signed with Minnesota, who didn't re-sign before he went to Detroit.  Billups was a mediocre nomad for a long time before finally hitting in Detroit. Even if Pitino had kept him, it is unlikely he would have become the same level of player in Boston.  Plus, Kenny Anderson was actually pretty good in Boston and was a key member on the ECF team.

Nothing close

As far as on court disappoints those Game 7 home court flops have piled up in the last 20 years or so.  Indy, Miami a couple of times.  I feel like I’m missing one too.
Yup

Kenny Anderson was such a DISAPPOINTMENT.

I was a big fan of his coming out of college. Heck, everyone was. I enjoyed watching him New Jersey. All-Star. Went to Charlotte and put up a near All-Star year there. Went to Portland and had a very good year there in 1997. Then he comes here ...

He goes from an 18ppg 8apg PG to a a 10-12ppg 5-6apg PG overnight.

He went from one the most exciting ball-handlers in the league to being a basic setup guard who did the right thing and rarely did anything fancy or risky.

I remember expecting Kenny Anderson to make such a good impact here. Never happened. He played alright. I still liked him. He just wasn't what I hoped he was going to be. He didn't live up those expectations.

Yeah.  Anderson was steady here.  A solid starter, somebody who you could trust to handle the ball and not mess up.  But, watching him in Boston you never would have remembered he was a legendary amateur player.

Anderson averaged 18/8 1 time in his career, which was 3.5 seasons before he came to Boston.  In Portland the first half of the season he was averaging 12.6 ppg and 5.4 apg on terrible shooting.  He shot less in Boston, but significantly improved his shooting percentage and got his AST% back up to near his early NJ days.

I didn't realize his numbers were that bad early in 1998.

I remember his 1997 season. He and Sabonis made Portland one of the most fun teams in the league. Beautiful ball movement and passing between Kenny's dribble penetration & playmaking and Sabonis' high post game and low post passing. Kenny averaged 17ppg and 7apg that year.

He average 17.3ppg 8.5apg 1.8spg over a 5 year period from 1992-93 to 1996-97.

His brief spell in Charlotte in 1995-96 was a lot of fun to watch as well. You had Kenny at the point with Dell Curry and Glen Rice on the wings spotting up for 3s and LJ in the PnR.

The NJ teams were not as nice to watch. A lot of bad offensive players around Coleman and Kenny. They were playing 2 on 5 most of the time.
