Love see Middleton here but if he is bought out, my guess be Denver
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Rookie guard John Tonje signed a two-way deal with the Boston Celtics on Sunday after completing a 10-day contract, the team announced.

Looks like Tonje is out of the mix.  They are probably waiting to see who gets bought out today and then decide who to sign to get back to 14.

Nice to see him back with a 2 way deal though.

I think they stick with Banton, but the one vet I'd be interested in is Tyus Jones. He's having a down year, but he's a smart player.

Not much on the vet buyout market after all. I expect they will kick some tires in these next 14 days they have.  At this point, it does not look like they will add anyone who will help in the playoffs. Just some guys to cover minutes for the rest of the regular season.

I guess all eyes are now on the Tatum watch. To see how Tatum looks when he comes back and how the team looks with him in the mix.  This is no small thing, of course. Adding an all NBA player to a team that is already contending.

How is our cap situation affected by Tatum's injury?

I'm assuming we got some kind of accommodation seeing that we basically have an "extra" player on our payroll who isn't on the roster?

Just wondering how that affects all of the machinations in trying to get under the apron.

Thx!

Our situation is unaffected by Tatum?s injury.  We did not apply for an injury exemption for him.  If we did, we would have had a $14.1 million exception that could be used for a free agent on a 1-year deal or to trade for a player on an expiring contract.  But again we did not apply for one, and in any case the exception is only against the cap not the tax, so it would not have been used even if we had.

If you have enough injured players you can sign a 16th player, but as we have had no more than 14 players all season, currently have 12, and have been relatively healthy aside from Tatum, that also has not been a consideration.

Can Queta be extended over the summer?

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Yes, he is eligible for a four-year extension (I think, might be three, they changed that rule in the new CBA), for up to around $15 million in year one (the official amount would be determined this summer, but is 120% of the average NBA salary.  This year the average salary was $11.9 million).  The new salary would kick in for the 2027-2028 season, and so would not affect the Celtics ability to stay under the tax next season.

Thanks. I was hoping you would answer that lol. TP

Queta is signed next season already. Tough call whether to extend now or extend next season when I believe he could extend for more.  He gets paid the same next season in either case.

Do you guys think Tatum or the Celtics are doing too much with his Achilles recovery documentary?  :-X
