Very impressive 3rd Quarter show tonight put on by PP and Hauser. Mykhailiuk again fills it up and I like his athleticism.

On the other hand, the non-shooters clanked it up big time.  Brissett and Stevens combined go 0 for 8 from floor - somewhat less than ideal.  Banton joined the 0-fer brigade as did Walsh - both 0 for 3. Davison 1-4. Stevens and Brissett didn't even have good misses from what I could see. Most of their shots were way off.

Yeah, between Brissett, Stevens and Banton, we can quickly build a house with all the bricks they lay. Good thing we have several elite shooters off our bench with Pritchard, Hauser and Svi to balance things out.

What this team needs imo is Daniel Theis. He's also being wasted in Houston.

I understand Joe likes the double big starting lineup, but if you bring Al off the bench and go with White and Holiday as your starting backcourt, our bench big man is solved. Pritchard has the backup PG spot under control too.

Yeah, it feels like Pritchard being awesome + Kornet highly disappointing may force his hand.

Theis is still in Indiana where we sent him.   Not sure where he’ll slot in their rotation, but probably behind Turner as the backup center.  He started ahead of Jalen Smith last night when Turner rested.

That might actually be the plan already.  We only saw the Top 6 in the first game, when Holiday had been on the team for all of 4 days so he came off the bench to start.

Joe did make the point in Celtics Postgame that they've never had a double big lineup like Al and KP where both are great shooters, great passers and he felt it gave them another dimension.

In any case I think we're probably getting a little too hung up on who starts, it's definitely important in getting the team off on the right foot but I think it's going to be the combinations of players and matchups that the analytics guys will focus on and that smaller lineup with Jrue and Derrick will get plenty of time. I think it might have been you that mentioned it but it's really all about making sure two of Tatum, Brown, KP, Al, Jrue and Derrick are on the floor at any given time so we don't have a huge drop off in production when we bring in the likes of Hauser, Pritchard et al. Because we don't have a lot of depth but we have six All-Star level players we have to make sure they are beefing up the rest of our bench units when those guys come on.

Can we afford him? Who do we get send out to cover his $9m and keep the impact to our salary cap neutral? I'm guessing Pritchard, Banton and Brissett? But then we'll be short a ball handler...and PP would look mighty good as an el cheapo (though since he's got a poison pill he would cost Indy slightly more in cap space) ball handler  :police:

The unfortunate reality is we're going to be uncomfortable this season because can't really afford to fill out the roster to give us the depth we've had in the past because the front end is so high priced. Theis would be great as the third big though for sure. Right now that third big will cause some sphincter tightening in game threads throughout the season

Video of Dalano being ripped a new one by Joe after his lackadaisical attempt at trying to get a loose ball

And as Mazzulla sat his starters for the second half, Banton had a chance. But then a rebound fell to his feet after the first play, he swiped at it, but never hit the deck. P.J. Tucker — one of the great hustlers of this era — showed him how it’s done.

Thirty-four seconds into the half, Banton joined the starters back on the bench, with Mazzulla lighting into him.

“Listen, there’s nothing more important than holding people to a high standard, especially when you believe in them and know they can be really, really good,” Mazzulla told reporters in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

It’s kind of a golden rule that you dive for a loose ball and secure possession. That’s something the Celtics organization and fans have treasured forever. Loose balls were why Tommy Points were invented. Marcus Smart dove for balls that weren’t even loose with his Cobra Strikes. Sure, one swipe at the ball without hitting the deck is fine, and that’s what Tucker did too. But once you miss and the ball is sitting there, you better taste hardwood and lock that ball into your chest.

“Everybody on the roster competes at a high level and understands that taking pride in defense is number one,” Mazzulla told reporters in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Mazzula did this ? Wow !!!

I remember Jerry West after the 1969 Finals loss to an aging Celtics team talking about one of our guys diving for a loose ball.
He said, "But the Celtics players, they're all like that."

I'm impressed Joe is aware of this tradition of hustling beyond what an average player is willing to do.
After the 60's, Cowens then Bird then Garnett carried that torch and won championships.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

After a year and a full offseason maybe he's starting to learn how we do things around here  :police:
