Belichick entered the season needing 18 more wins to pass Shula. Through 6 weeks this season, that number has only dropped to 17. They really can't drag this out. Tell Belichick that his GM duties are relieved and let him coach but that's it, OR if he doesn't accept, let him coach on another team if he wants. Enough with this. It doesn't have to be in-season but let him go after this season. I don't want Belichick messing up a potentially high draft pick as well if it nets a great QB prospect. You know he'll trade down or pick some reach like Cole Strange again

I wonder if he even wants to coach for 3-4 more years to beat Shula, I'm sure he wants to beat him but I don't think he has it in him to endure another 3-4 years of this type of humiliation. He just looks deflated and unmotivated and the team is taking on his aspect. It might be best for not just the Pats but also for him to part ways after this season.

I’m waiting with excitement for Bills press conference: “we gotta play better, coach better” response to every question

And this is exactly what he said  :police:

There is a real "Washington Wizards-era Michael Jordan" vibe to BB's tenure right now. If he's smart he'll cut his losses and maintain the goodwill he's built here.

I just saw that Damien Harris was taken off the field in an ambulance yesterday. I wish you all the best Damien. Edit: Apparently it was a neck injury. Hopefully it ends up being something minor.

So it seems we have a propensity for two very distinct kinds of losses.

1) The flat out embarrassing “what are even doing on the same field with another NFL team” loss.

2) the “Let’s scratch and claw our way back to the point where have the ball at the end of the game with a chance to win, but we really never even come close to making good on that last opportunity” loss.

Maybe we can throw in a blown 4th quarter lead or two for good measure by the end of the season (so close to one in the one victory over the Jets).
Yup

Bellichick has gotten progressively worse ever since the 2007 Super Bowl loss, the second part of the dynasty had everything to do with Brady and even he couldn’t win a Super Bowl with bill o brien at offensive coordinator

I'm into the Belichick bashing. I think he deserves it. The team he put together stinks.

Belichick is grouchy and a tough guy to get along with (apparently- I don't know him). He deserves to get heavily criticized. He doesn't deserve people making things up.

NE won the Seattle Super Bowl at the end because of defensive preparation. They shut down Atlanta's high powered offense after 28-3. They won their last Super Bowl vs the Rams by giving up 3 points.

The Pats won their first Super Bowl by scoring 20 points and giving up 17. They lost two Super Bowls to the Giants, giving up 17 and 21 points respectively.

They did give up 29 points to the Panthers and 41 points to the Eagles in those Super Bowls. Thus, the defense played well in 7 out of the 9 Super Bowls that Belichick coached.

I love when people compliment Brady. He was awesome and will inspire me to be better until my last breath. Tom Brady was largely responsible for those 6 SB wins. So was Bill Belichick. Those trying to say otherwise are transparently haters.

And Belichick was largely responsible for losing the second Eagles Superbowl by mysteriously benching Malcolm Butler (more of a Belichick ego issue) and the defense never showing up-- Jordan Richards, what was he even doing in that game, and losing the 2011 SB due to having no defense that year.

Agree. You probably found the worst coaching job of his life on the biggest stage. What is your point? Maybe I shouldn't take the bait when people arrive at crazy conclusions about the team I watched for decades.

Does he stink now? Yes. Did he stink then? Nope. Belichick was the most impactful coach in the NFL for two decades. I'm acknowledging that he deserves a lot of criticism for the last 5 years. We don't need to re-write history to do so.

IMO, Belichick the coach is not the problem...Belihick the GM is another story. If he wants to get those 18 wins to pass Shula he needs to swallow his pride and him and Mr. Kraft need to bring in a personnel person to help with the roster.

He's been on a terrible run as a GM. It's time for him to retire as a GM and a coach.

That being said, he wasn't a bad GM when he was picking diamonds in the rough. Countless late round/undrafted players chosen. Plenty of guys that weren't on Mel Kiper's list that exceeded the "expert" opinions. Plenty of traded players that worked out well. He managed the cap and the roster very well for decades.

Yes but it seems as if then he had a strong #2 like Caserio, Pioli, Quinn and Demitroff. Where has that guy been in recent years?

The NE Patriots treated me to the best 20 years of sports enjoyment of my life.  It was a treat, year after year.  I don’t really care who was most responsible.  I’m grateful for Brady and Bill, the Krafts, but also for Troy, Bruschi, Johnson, Woody, Welker, Julian, Rodney, Ty, Asante, Gronk, Devin, Darrelle, Slater, Adam, etc etc….

If Bill isn’t getting the job done now, get him out. But it won’t sully my opinion of him over the 20 year run. I have nothing but gratitude for everyone associated with that run (unless they murdered someone).

Thank God for the Celtics because the rest of the sports teams right now don't inspire much.

Maybe the bruins will be better than we thought though.
