PBS values hungry hard workers & happy towel waivers over talent in his 3rd stringers.

He wants a happy locker room more than a deep bench.

Except I'd argue we had the deepest team in the league last year, and we may have the deepest team this year.

I am only talking about 3rd stringers here. Deep bench.

I agree we had tremendous depth 6 through 10.

I completely disagree. Kornet, Muscala, Griffin, Pritchard were more than serviceable 3rd stringers, especially for the essentially minimum contracts the 4 with the team from the beginning got.

This is assuming a top 9 of Smart/Brogdon/White/JB/JT/Rob/Horford/Grant/Hauser (who was supposed to be deep bench and signed a now steal of a 3 year minimum contract).

Our deep bench was tremendous, just weak on wings/swings, which meant the talent had less time to play.

I have Pritchard, Brogdon, Hauser, G Will and Timelord as our bench five.

Then Muscala who is a rotation caliber big and an excellent 3rd stringer. Or you could switch places with Prichard and Muscala and have Pritchard as the 11th man if you prefer. Again, a very good 3rd stringer. High level 3rd string PG. Then B Griffin who is okay. Kornet who is a liability. Dead roster spot in Gallo who got hurt. And another dead roster spot. Or Champaigne or whatever he was called.

So 1 high level 3rd stringer in Muscala or Pritchard. 1 okay mid-level 3rd stringer in B Griffin. Then nothing worthwhile beyond that.

Muscala and Galo were traded.

Last year's squad

Oh, check!

Our 3rd stringers so far this season are:

G: JD Davison
G: Jordan Walsh
F: Oshae Brisset
F: Dalano Banton
C: Luke Kornet

Who there do we trust in a playoff game? Do we trust any of those 5 guys in a playoff game?

Who are these other teams third stringers that are great?

Most spots are not filled yet. Too early in Free Agency. Most teams are still filling out their primary bench players.

So far, LAC look the best. Amir Coffee, Robert Covington, Kenyon Martin Jr. All rotation caliber guys as 3rd stringers.

It’s a two way street with FAs. Hard to sell an FA a role on the team that 1. Will be for the league minimum and 2. Have very limited playing time as basically their rotation 1-9 is basically already complete (under assumption that Grant stays). It’s not a very attractive offer. Plus, throw in the fact that you’d be the 10-14th person on the roster in Boston as opposed to LA for example and it’s  even less palatable if you are an established veteran.

if you want to carry 3 max guys you have to fill the end of your bench with low tier vet mini fliers. Do we have 8 guys come playoffs we can trust in a rotation because thats what matters.
ok fine

None of those guys signed as veteran FAs. I believe they were all trades.

Then Brad should have traded for Martin. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Would be nice to have more shooting off the bench. Banton and Brissett are not good shooters at all.

How much better is that guy from what they have on the roster though? Is he worth multiple 2nd round picks? I don’t think so.

It wouldn't necessarily have been two picks, since we've got some decent top-40 projected picks available.

But, I think he's significantly better than guys like Banton, Champagnie, etc.  He started 49 games last year, and he's shown that he can score efficiently and rebound while being a solid defender.

But yes, I'd trade two #2s for a productive rotation player.

He played on like the worst team in the NBA who was actively tanking. Just because he got fed minutes on a ganking team it doesn’t make him good.

The Cs don’t have huge holes (assuming Grant stays). Brad might also not be done adding as well.

The productivity, defense and track record makes him good.  It's not like Indiana or Toronto were knocking it out of the park.

I thought Kenyon Martin Jr was a good player. A little bit of a tweener. More of a SG size body but a SF level skill-set. Lacks handles and passing for a guard. So a more limited offensive guy.

But he has carved out a nice niche for himself as an end of rotation NBA guy. I like him. He has some two way game. He has some size on the wing and good athleticism.
