When you start the year with 5 worthless spots (Jackson, Vonleh, Kornet, Gallo, Rob) and then have a young inexperienced guy in one (Hauser), an old guy who can't go every night in one (Horford), and then a bunch of guys that always get hurt (Brown, Smart, Brogdon) it leads to 1 inexpicable conclusion.  The team's depth was always exaggerated.  This board seemed to buy into the national narrative that the C's were the deepest team in the sport.  It has always been nonsense.  Now obviously getting Rob back and acquiring Muscala at least added 2 more players to the bench, but the team still had essentially 3 worthless spots on the roster the entire year. Completely and wholly unacceptable for a team that is supposed to be competing for a title and that has several TPE's that it could have used.

I hate to sound like a broken record but nothing about this team screamed like it was competing post-Brogdon trade.  No move made helped the team compete for a title.  A wasted season because of a cheap ownership group.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

We need a coach that will use our depth. All of our main guys were banged up and injured by the time we played the last game. Brogdon/arm, Brown/Elbow/cheekbone, Tatum/wrist/ankle, Smart/back leg, Horford/old... We need to play 10 guys during the regular season and at least 8 deep for the playoffs. We should've been getting guys' minutes in that Atlanta series. If you go up big you don't keep running the starters until they are gassed and the lead is gone. If the Heat can play Robinson we should've been able to play Hauser. If Spo was our coach deep bench guys could've played key roles.

I don't think it matters. No coach would trust the 9th guy in a game 7, this team goes as far as the top5 players take it. The heat seems to have a deeper bench because outside Jimmy and Bam they are all role players, besides, they are pretty banged up too. Our supposedly more talented team choked, that's our own fault. The Miami heat isn't that great a team, it just happens to be better than the Celtics of this year.

Pritchard shot 36.4
Muscala 39.1

We could've used some shooting.

I agree and have also been saying that ownership cheaped out again! Like they do every year.

Most coaches wouldn't trust a guy with a torn tendon in his arm either, but ours did.
Sometimes you have to try something when it's not working. The cold shooting from game 6 carried over and with JT being hobbled, they needed something drastic to happen. Instead, ol joe stayed the course. Maybe we still lose, but we'll never know because the coach was too slow to react.....again.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

Compare Hauser's stats this year to Duncan Robinsons'.

The same folks saying the end of bench guys don't matter are a lot of the same people saying it didn't matter if we signed Max Strus when he was here and I really wanted him as a shooter. The same thing that people said when I wanted to draft Bane at 14, The same when I wanted to go after Austin Reaves cause he'd never play an NBA minute. This is a tired old tune. I'll say it again this year like I do every year- there are some quality players in the late first and the second round this year.

I don't disagree Joe needs to go. But Brogdon's poor 7 minutes isn't the reason we lost. I stand by my comment, the heat isn't that good a team, they are bad at shooting, Duncan Robinson is a bad player, they eliminated us because how TERRIBLE we have played, not because how great they are. We lost our defence identity this year, it took us 6 games to beat the worst team in this playoff, 7 to beat a dysfunctional 76ers. Having a better end of bench player won't change that.

Not if you don't play them.

Maimi is going to the NBA finals playing "end of the bench" guys!

And they would lose again just like a couple of years ago. The heat is a very beatable team, as long as you are not mentally weak, knows how to defend 3, and your stars don't shoot 20% on 3s.

They also beat the Bucks. Miami is playing good team ball with quite a few guys who are "end of the bench" guys. That fact remains.

They can shoot but all three would be a sieve on D in the playoffs.

I think our bench depth was better than last year but it still was not good.

I don't think it's delusional to think that Hauser would've given us more than that.

I do.  Brogdon was hurt.   Mazulla did not trust Hauser near the end.

Still feel that way?

Yeah, I still feel that way. Hauser shot 41.8 from 3. If Miami could play Robinson then we could've played Hauser. Brogdon was hurt and shouldn't have been playing.

We only scored 84 points in game 7. We needed offense.

they beat the bucks without Giannis for the first 3 games, and they did it because of the only star they have, Jimmy Butler, is playing like the best player on the planet. I don't think the Heat hold a chance beating Bucks, or any team in the playoff, without an outstanding Jimmy Butler.
