Can't say I'm surprised.

Sources: The #Patriots are trading TE Jonnu Smith to the #Falcons, as a former big-ticket free agent heads elsewhere and creates space for New England.

EDIT: For a 7th rounder.

The Patriots are trading Jonnu Smith to the Falcons for a seventh-round pick, per source (
@RapSheet
first on the trade). Smith is reunited with Falcons coach Arthur Smith, and will restructure his contract.

What a bust. Though, to be fair, I don't think the coaching staff did a great job utilizing him.

We'll see how he does in Atlanta, where the coaching staff did a terrible job utilizing Kyle Pitts.

Jonnu has to be up there with Adalius Thomas as the worst FA signings of the Belichick era.

I was just thinking that. Might be the worst signing in NE history when you consider the money paid vs player production.

According to Roster Management System, Smith had cap hits of $17,228,529 in 2023 and $18,405,000 in 2024 with New England.

The thing about Smith is, he really wasn't any good in Tennessee.  He was basically the same player his last year in Tennessee as he was his 1st year in New England (less targets, but similar catch rate, yards per catch, etc.  He played about what like you would expect.  He was so overpaid though.  Crazy contract given to him.

Completely agree. It was a terrible contract from the beginning. He never had more than 450 yards receiving in a season while in Tennessee! Hated that signing.

The Atlanta Falcons are giving Pro Bowl right guard Chris Lindstrom a five-year extension, the franchise announced Monday.

The deal is for five years and $105 million, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler, making him the NFL's highest paid guard and will now keep him with the club through the 2028 season.

Hat tip to a BC product getting paid, but that's a lot of cash for a guard.

One need down.  Now let's get some help on the OL / DL.

He gets $19.5M over 3 years, source said. $12M guaranteed. A big signing for Chicago, and not the last.

That's a surprisingly reasonable deal for 30 minutes into free agency.

Baltimore loses Powers to Denver.  He played in every snap last year and was a big part of the Ravens great rushing attack as he is a highly effective run blocking guard.

Sources: Former #Raiders QB Jarrett Stidham is signing a 2-year, $10M deal with the #Broncos, choosing to play for Sean Payton over other options. The deal, which includes $5M guaranteed and $4M more in upside, reunites him Davis Webb – who he has known since he was a teenager.
